An aircraft having a blended-wing-body configuration includes a centerbody, a pair of wings, at least one pair of engines, a pair of air inlets, and a pair of exhaust outlets. The centerbody has an airfoil-shaped cross section, an aircraft centerline, an aft portion, an upper mold line, a lower mold line, and a pair of centerbody leading edge portions respectively on opposite sides of the aircraft centerline. The wings are integral with the centerbody. The pair of engines are located on opposite sides of the aircraft centerline and are mounted within the centerbody between the upper mold line and the lower mold line. The pair of air inlets are located respectively along the centerbody leading edge portions and are respectively fluidly coupled to the pair of engines. The pair of exhaust outlets our located in the aft portion of the centerbody and our respectively fluidly coupled to the pair of engines.

Systems and methods for mechanically rotating an aircraft about its center-of-gravity (C.sub.G) are disclosed. The system can enable the rear, or main, landing gear to squat, while the nose landing gear raises to generate a positive angle of attack for the aircraft for takeoff or landing. The system can also enable the nose gear and main gear to return to a relatively level fuselage attitude for ground operations. The system can include one or more hydraulically linked hydraulic cylinders to control the overall height of the nose gear and the main gear. Because the hydraulic cylinders are linked, a change on the length of the nose cylinder generates a proportional, and opposite, change in the length of the main cylinder, and vice-versa. A method and control system for monitoring and controlling the relative positions of the nose gear and main gear is also disclosed.

Technologies are described herein for a drag recovery scheme using a boundary layer bypass duct system. In some examples, boundary layer air is routed around the intake of one or more of the engines and reintroduced aft of the engine fan in the nozzle duct in a mixer-ejector scheme. Mixer-ejectors mix the boundary layer flow to increase mass flow.

A blended wing aircraft including a blended wing fuselage and at least one embedded gas turbine engine in the fuselage. The gas turbine engine includes an inlet duct formed with a generally elliptical shape that includes a first set of ellipse sections along an upper portion of the inlet duct and a second set of ellipse sections along a lower portion of the inlet duct. The inlet duct includes a vertical centerline. The first set of ellipse sections at a throat of the inlet duct is larger in area than an area of an upstream most end of the second set of ellipse sections. The area of the second set of ellipse sections increases toward a downstream end of the inlet duct. A fan section has an axis of rotation that is spaced from the vertical centerline and is disposed within an inlet duct orifice. The inlet duct is upstream of the fan section.

AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE

An aircraft structure which extends along a longitudinal axis, a lateral axis and a vertical axis, wherein the aircraft structure includes an upper shell and a lower shell that together surround an interior compartment designed for accommodating an aircraft cabin, and a pillar arrangement with at least one support pillar which extends through the interior compartment and connects the upper shell to the lower shell and supports same in relation to each other. An aircraft structure can be provided which is particularly efficient, in particular has a low weight and requires little space and outlay on assembly is achieved in that the interior of the support pillar has at least one flow duct for the conduction of air-conditioned air.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TRACKING, EVALUATING AND DETERMINING A RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY SITUATIONS USING UNMANNED AIRBORNE VEHICLES

Various embodiments of systems, apparatus, and/or methods are described for enhanced responsiveness in responding to an emergency situation using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). Drones are fully autonomous in that they are operated without human intervention from a pilot, an operator, or other personnel. The disclosed drone utilizes movable access doors to provide the capability of vertically takeoff and landing. The drone also includes an emergency recovery system including a mechanism to deploy a parachute in an event of a failure of the on-board autopilot. Also disclosed herein is a drone port that provides an IR-based docking mechanism for precision landing of the drone, with a very low margin of error. Additionally, the drone port includes pads that provide automatic charge to the drone's batteries by contact-based charging via the drone's landing gear legs.

A multi-segment oblique flying wing aircraft which has three distinct segments including two outer wing segments and a central wing segment. The central segment may be thicker in the vertical direction and adapted to hold pilots and passengers. The outer wing segments may be substantially thinner and may taper as they progress outboard from the wing center. The multi-segment oblique flying wing aircraft be adapted for rotating into a high speed flight configuration, or may be adapted for take-off and cruise at a constant angle. In an extreme flight case, the central wing segment may rotate to a local sweep of ninety degrees.

The present application provides an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for a long duration flight. An exemplary UAV may include a UAV body assembly. The UAV may also include a flight control system (FCS) coupled to the UAV body assembly. The UAV may further include a motor coupled to the UAV body assembly at one end and coupled to a propeller at the other end. The FCS is communicatively connected to the motor. A center of gravity (CG) of the UAV is at a point between 21% and 25% of a mean aerodynamic chord (MAC) of the UAV.
