Provided are multi-tread vehicles and methods of operating such vehicles to access small interior spaces. A multi-tread vehicle may include two or more tread sections such that each pair of adjacent tread sections is interconnected by a connector section. Furthermore, each pair may have one or more degrees of articulations, such as being pivotable with respect to each other around one or more axis and/or being bendable with respect to each other around one or more axis. These articulation degrees may be provided by the connector section and/or by couplings between the connector section and each tread section. In some embodiments, each tread section may include two portions detachably coupled to each other. This detachable coupling may be used for disassembly of the multi-tread vehicle after or even during its use, for example, when only a portion of the vehicle needs to be retrieved from an interior space.

Methods, systems, and devices for radio-frequency assisted removal of sealant
09718221 · 2017-08-01 · ·

Cured flexible sealant may be removed from a substrate if the cured flexible sealant includes within its volume a susceptor such as metal susceptor particles. Removal proceeds by exposing the sealant with the susceptor to radio-frequency radiation sufficient to cause dielectric heating in the susceptor. The consequent heating in the cured sealant reduces the bond strength of the cured sealant. The reduced bond-strength sealant may be removed by physical methods, such as scraping etc., much more easily than the original (unexposed) cured sealant. Also disclosed are sealant compositions with susceptor, susceptor tools to introduce susceptor into cured sealant, and handheld radio-frequency heaters to apply radio-frequency radiation to cured sealant.

COMPOSITE RIB FOR A TORSION BOX AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

The present disclosure refers to the configuration and manufacturing process of a rib for the construction of an aircraft torsion box. In the method, a flat stack of plies of composite material is layered up, which is then cut to form a flat pre-form having an outer contour having flanges, and an internal contour having two or more diagonal trusses with flanges at opposite sides. The flat pre-form is press-formed to fold the flanges of the outer and internal contour to form a rib pre-form, which is finally cured. The present disclosure also refers to a composite rib having a unitary body by forming a single pre-form of stacked plies. The present disclosure allows the manufacture of the rib in one-shot process, integrating all the ribs components such that the assembly time and cost of the rib are minimized.

Fuel Tank Testing System
20250091731 · 2025-03-20 ·

A method, apparatus, and system for testing a fuel tank for an aircraft. Electrical power is sent to an optical data concentrator for the fuel tank for the aircraft from a power supply such that the optical data concentrator sends optical signals to optical sensors inside the fuel tank through optical fibers connecting the optical data concentrator to the optical sensors. The electrical power is sent during a phase of manufacturing of the aircraft. Test data is received from the optical data concentrator by a computer system. The test data is based on optical response signals received from the optical sensors. A determination of states for the optical sensors is made by the computer system using the test data. A graphical indication of the states determined for the optical sensors inside the fuel tank is displayed by the computer system in a graphical user interface on a display system.

Aircraft coating application system and method

A coating application system may include a pair of towers movable along a respective pair of floor tracks. A crossbeam may extend between the pair of towers. The cross beam may have opposing beam ends. A universal joint may couple each beam end to a tower to allow the crossbeam to rotate about a vertical axis and about a horizontal axis. A robotic device may be mounted to the crossbeam. The robotic device may include an end effector for performing one or more operations on an aircraft exterior surface.

AIRFRAME PRODUCTION
