Magnetic rotor alignment for aircraft
An aircraft motor includes a bearing assembly including a first plurality of rotor alignment magnets; a magnet support structure fixedly mounted on a shaft of the motor in a spaced apart relation to the bearing assembly, the magnet support structure including a second plurality of rotor alignment magnets such that when the vertical thrust engine is disengaged, attraction between the first and second rotor alignment magnets causes the magnet support structure to rotate relative to the bearing assembly to an alignment position defined by the relative placement of north and south poles of the first and second plurality of rotor alignment magnets.
Hybrid flight vehicle using engine gyro effect for stabilization
In a hybrid flight vehicle, having four rotors attached to a frame and configured to produce propelling force to propel the frame, a gas turbine engine attached to the frame and configured to rotate when fuel is supplied, a generator connected to an output shaft of the engine and configured to generate electric power when driven by the engine, a battery configured to store the electrical power generated by the generator, and four first electric motors each connected to the rotors to drive associated one of the rotors when the electric power is supplied from the battery, and an electronic control unit configured to control flight by regulating driving of the four rotors by the first electric motors. In the vehicle, the output shaft of the engine is attached parallel to at least one among yaw axis, pitch axis and roll axis of the frame.
Unmanned aircraft having reduced acoustic signatures
Unmanned aircraft have aligned forward and aft propulsion systems possessing different performance and/or noise characteristics. According to some embodiments, unmanned aircraft have a forward engine and a forward tractor propeller and an aft engine and an aft pusher propeller. Selected ones of forward and aft propulsion systems will thus be provided to have greater and lesser operational flight performance characteristics and greater and lesser noise signature characteristics, respectively, as compared to the other. For example, the forward propulsion system may be provided with the greater operational flight performance and higher signature characteristics as compared to the aft propulsion system, while conversely the aft propulsion system may be provided with a lesser flight performance and lower noise signature characteristics as compared to the forward propulsion system.
HYBRID MULTIROTOR PROPULSION SYSTEM FOR AN AIRCRAFT
A hybrid multirotor propulsion system for an aircraft includes a plurality of propulsion units, each propulsion unit having a propeller, an electromotor and a peripheral differential gearbox; a plurality of driving elements, each of which is coupled to a respective one of the plurality of propulsion units; a mechanical power source; a main distributor gearbox; at least one electric machine; and a power management unit. The power management unit is configured according to a predetermined operating mode, which causes the mechanical power source to output first and second mechanical power components; and distributing the first mechanical power component to provide each driving element with a direct mechanical propeller power; and causes the electric machine to convert the second mechanical power component into electric power, part of which provides each electromotor with an electric propeller power. The direct mechanical propeller power causes each electromotor to convert the electric propeller power into an indirect mechanical propeller power, outputted to the peripheral differential gearbox; and causes the peripheral differential gearbox of each propulsion unit to aggregate the direct mechanical propeller power and the indirect mechanical propeller power to a total mechanical propeller power which drives the propeller of each propulsion unit.
Indoor growing system
An agricultural method includes providing a positive air pressure chamber to prevent outside contaminants from entering the chamber; growing crops in a plurality of cells in the chamber, each cell having multi-grow benches or levels, each cell further having connectors to vertical hoists for vertical movements in the chamber; maintaining pre-set temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, watering and lighting levels to achieve predetermined plant growth; using motorized transport rails to deliver benches for operations including seeding, harvesting, grow media recovery, and bench wash; dispensing seeds in the cell with a mechanical seeder coupled to the transport rails; growing the crops with computer controlled nutrients, light and air level; and harvesting the crops and delivering the harvested crop at a selected outlet of the chamber.
UAV configurations and battery augmentation for UAV internal combustion engines, and associated systems and methods
UAV configurations and battery augmentation for UAV internal combustion engines, and associated systems and methods are disclosed. A representative configuration includes a fuselage, first and second wings coupled to and pivotable relative to the fuselage, and a plurality of lift rotors carried by the fuselage. A representative battery augmentation arrangement includes a DC-powered motor, an electronic speed controller, and a genset subsystem coupled to the electronic speed controller. The genset subsystem can include a battery set, an alternator, and a motor-gen controller having a phase control circuit configurable to rectify multiphase AC output from the alternator to produce rectified DC feed to the DC-powered motor. The motor-gen controller is configurable to draw DC power from the battery set to produce the rectified DC feed.
Unmanned aerial vehicle optimization
The invention relates, generally, to systems and methods for optimizing the performance of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) by optimizing the UAV's drivetrain, extending the UAV's battery life; by monitoring and reporting on payload imbalance or overweight conditions; and by improving the aerodynamics and streamlining of certain drag-producing elements.
