Various enhancements of heat seals are provided herein with sealant layers that provide for decreased chance of oversealing the heat seal to a container. Such enhancements include the use of various types of resins in combination to provide for desirable heating and sealing characteristics. Further, the heat seals may be especially suitable for use with polyester containers, such as those containing polyethylene terephthalate.

Reclosable package as well as thermoform packaging machine and method

A reclosable package, and a machine and method for making that reclosable package that includes a tray for receiving a product and a substantially horizontal edge, wherein the horizontal edge extends circumferentially on an upper side of the tray and has a clamping portion releasably connected thereto. The package includes a top film across the tray, the edge and the clamping portion, and which may be releasably connected to the edge by a first sealed seam to seal the tray in a gas-tight manner. The top film may be connected to the clamping portion by a second sealed seam. A side face of the tray may include an undercut provided with a projection, the projection being suitable for locking the clamping portion in position when the clamping portion has been detached from the edge and is located between the projection of the undercut and the side face of the tray.

A MULTILAYER LIDDING FILM BASED ON POLYETHYLENE

A lidding film comprising oriented polyethylene bonded to non-oriented polyethylene is disclosed. The oriented polyethylene may comprise a plurality of layers and the non-oriented polyethylene may comprise a plurality of layers, wherein the oriented polyethylene is bonded to the non-oriented polyethylene by extrusion coating or by a laminating adhesive. The oriented polyethylene comprises machine direction oriented polyethylene (MDO PE) or biaxially oriented polyethylene (BOPE). The lidding film may comprise from 1 to 15 wt. % of a polymer other than polyethylene, preferably the lidding film comprises no more than 5 wt. % of a polymer other than polyethylene. Also disclosed is a sealed container comprising a lidding film according to the invention and a polymer tray wherein the lidding film is heat sealed to the top edge of the polymer tray via the non-oriented polyethylene, thereby enclosing a product within a recess defined by the polymer tray. Also disclosed is a method of producing a lidding film.

Container and method for manufacturing container

There is provided a container that makes it possible to suppress intrusion of bacteria from the tip of a pleat part into the inside of the container. The container includes: a main body that includes a body part defining a containing portion and a flange part extending outward from an upper portion of the body part; and a lid that is joined to the flange part of the main body via an outer edge seal portion so as to cover the containing portion, the lid being formed by a lid member folded back at a fold-back portion such that portions of the lid member overlap each other. The lid has: a pleat part that includes the portions of the lid member overlapping each other and that extends from an edge of one side to an edge of the other side of the lid in a first direction; and a first lid part and a second lid part that are formed by the lid member and that are arranged on opposite sides of the pleat part. The pleat part includes: a pleat seal portion in which inner surfaces of the portions of the lid member are joined together and that extends from the edge of the one side to the edge of the other side of the lid in the first direction; and a steam passing portion that includes a through hole or a cutout formed in the pleat seal portion. Seal strength of the pleat seal portion is lower than that of the outer edge seal portion.
