The padded part comprises shaped cushioning parts on its periphery for supporting the padded part on the inside against the side walls of the outer box so as to be secured against displacement. An edge protector including a main body for installation on a box or package for protection and reinforcement. The edge protector includes first and second legs and a cover layer that extends over the outer surface of both of the first and second legs. An attachment portion of the cover layer extends over the outer edge of each leg and is retained along an inner surface of the leg on a release liner.
