A re-useable partitioning seal used storage containers creates a virtually airtight chambers, to preserve products therein. A disc or differently shaped layer, with flat top and bottom surfaces, is configured to fit against the interior surface of a storage container. A thin, flexible perimeter forming a gasket around the layer, and a handle attached to the layer without fissure or cavity, thereby providing and a single piece, inexpensive re-useable partitioning seal.

An apparatus and method for separation of air from fluids, whereby a contractable partition, a throat seal, and air vents are provided, which allow an inside portion behind the contractable partition to expand into or contract from an outside portion, increasing or decreasing the side of the inside portion to accommodate changing volumes of beverage, thereby preventing the entry of contaminating air and slowing the loss of carbonation of the remaining beverage.

Methods and apparatus for liquid preservation according to various aspects of the present invention may comprise a vessel and a displacer. The displacer may be disposed in an interior volume defined by an interior surface of the vessel. The displacer may change the volume of the interior volume. An aperture at an apex of the displacer or vessel may allow air to escape from the interior volume as the displacer decreases the volume of the interior volume. An at least partially transparent displacement indicator may be positioned atop the aperture.

A sealing device for a container and a container system that includes the sealing device is provided. The sealing device includes a substantially rigid center body and an elastically deformable seal member attached to the center body. The substantially rigid center body has a top surface, a bottom surface, and a peripheral edge extending between the top surface and the bottom surface. A system and method for protecting biological or other material from contamination through the steps of filling, freeze-drying, packaging, storing and use are disclosed. A system can include a flexible container, a membrane configured to transmit air or solvent vapor out of the flexible container, and a membrane frame supporting the membrane and engaged with at least one column member. The at least one column member can be configured to maintain the membrane and the membrane frame a spaced distance from one or more contents received within the flexible container. Upon application of a downward force, the at least one column member can assume a collapsed configuration. A method can include inserting a biological material, for example, into a flexible container, freeze-drying the biological material, moving the freeze-dried biological material to a portion of the flexible container that includes at least one port, and sealing the biological material within the portion.
