HOT-FILL PLASTIC CONTAINERS AND METHOD
20200062438 · 2020-02-27 ·

A hot-fill plastic container has a polygonal (e.g., hex-shape) sidewall portion and a plurality of panels in a sidewall portion that are configured to flex in response to an internal vacuum pressure. Further, in embodiments, the container may be suitable for hot filling while having a container weight that may be 20% to 30%, or even higher percentages, below current comparative conventional weights for a plastic container that is intended to hold an equivalent volume of contents. In embodiments, the panels may be configured, e.g., adjusted or tuned, to provide a desired (e.g., reduced or extended) shelf-life.

Lightweight polymeric container finish

A polymeric container including a base, a body, a finish, finish threads, and a tamper lip. The body extends from the base. The finish defines an opening through which a product can pass into, and out of, an internal volume of the container defined at least in part by the body. The finish threads are at an outer surface of the finish, and are configured to cooperate with closure threads of a closure to secure the closure to the finish. The tamper lip extends from the outer surface of the finish, and is configured to replace the support flange during handling, and to cooperate with a tamper tab of the closure. The closure diameter is about the same as the neck diameter.

Container and method of manufacturing the same

Various embodiments are directed to a container comprising: a spout, a base portion, and a plurality of alternating long sidewalls and short sidewalls extending away from the base portion to the spout. The plurality of alternating long sidewalls and short sidewalls collectively define a vertical portion extending away from the base portion, a downward sloping planar top portion extending away from the spout, and a gradually curved transition region extending between the vertical portion and the downward sloping planar top portion. The container comprises a strength protrusion surrounding the spout and defined within the downward sloping planar top portion and one or more vertical grooves defined within at least one of the long sidewalls or the short sidewalls.

Lightweight container base

A container defining a longitudinal axis and a transverse direction that is transverse with respect to the longitudinal axis. The container includes a finish and a sidewall portion extending from the finish. A plurality of ribs are defined by the sidewall. A base portion extends from the sidewall portion and encloses the sidewall portion to form a volume therein for retaining a commodity. The base portion has a contact surface for supporting the container. A plurality of straps extend radially along the base portion away from the longitudinal axis in the transverse direction, each one of the straps defines a strap surface that is closer to the finish than the contact surface. The plurality of ribs and the base portion are configured to place the container in a state of hydraulic charge-up when top load is applied to the container after the container is filled.

Lightweight container base

A container including an opening defined by a finish portion, and a base at an end of the container opposite to the opening. The base includes a standing ring extending inward from a heal to a center pushup portion. The center pushup portion includes an pushup ring surrounding an inversion portion. In an as-blown position the inversion portion extends outward and beyond the pushup ring such that the inversion portion is further from the opening than the pushup ring. In a final position the inversion portion is inverted relative to the as-blown position such that the inversion portion extends inward so as to be closer to the opening than the pushup ring. The inversion portion is mechanically moved from the as-blown position to the filled position with an inversion device after the container has been filled to reduce vacuum or increase pressure within the container.

A container closure system comprises a container 100 comprising a neck 120 having an outer surface, the neck including a plurality of snap ring segments 140 alternating with a plurality of snap ring voids 160 positioned around a circumference of the outer surface. The length of the circumference at which snap ring voids exist is 25% or more of the total length of the circumference. The plurality of snap ring segments is positioned at regular increments around a circumference of the outer surface. The system further includes a cap 14 comprising, among other things, a base 26 that comprises a plurality of snap prongs 16 arranged so as to engage and disengage the plurality of snap ring segments when the cap is rotated on the neck of the container. The plurality of snap prongs are configured to hold the cap on or release the cap from the container.
