A refuse vehicle including a first electric motor powered by a battery, a first hydraulic pump driven by the first electric motor, a packer actuator powered by the first hydraulic pump, a second electric motor powered by the battery, a second hydraulic pump driven by the second electric motor, a door actuator powered by the second hydraulic pump, and a lift actuator driven by the second hydraulic pump.

The invention relates to a compression apparatus for compressing refuse into a collection bin, the compression apparatus comprising: a compression tool having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end of the compression tool is pivotably hinged in the compression apparatus, and rotation of the second end of the compression tool is actuated by a hydraulic cylinder. Further the hydraulic cylinder comprises three separate chambers such that a first extracting chamber and a second extracting chamber are arranged on extracting side of the hydraulic cylinder, and a retracting chamber is arranged on retracting side of the hydraulic cylinder, and the first extracting chamber and the second extracting chamber are configured to be utilized separately or jointly. The invention also relates to a method for operating a compression apparatus for a refuse collection bin.

An unloading system comprises an upper-opening chamber for receiving airplane-derived refuse, a chute, a chute-connected safety gate which is settable in falling preventing relation with respect to an access door of an airplane from which the refuse is unloadable into the chute and to the chamber, and an air brake assembly for immobilizing the safety gate when the chute ceases to be vertically displaced.

Throughout several portions of a refuse collection system, coupling between hydraulic cylinders to related mechanical components are achieved using bolt-in bushings. The bolt-in bushings allow for improved efficiency in the manufacturing process and allow for repairs to be easily carried out by having a cylindrical opening configured to receive an attachment pin and a main body that is configured to be inserted into openings within portions of related mechanical components. The main body has a flange that will support connection holes, thereby allowing for attachment to the operating components of the refuse collection vehicle.

A refuse hopper is disclosed which may be mounted in the bed of a pick-up truck, a flat-bed truck or on a trailer. The refuse hopper includes a horizontally disposed support frame having a rear end, a front end, a first side and a second side. A hopper is pivotally mounted on the support frame and has a front end, a rear end, a front side and a second side. The refuse hopper is selectively movable between a horizontally disposed loading position and a dumping position. A compactor plate is pivotally mounted to the hopper and is movable between an upwardly extending loading position to a refuse packing position within the hopper. The hopper has a volume of about 2-4.5 cubic yards.

A organic waste collection vehicle includes a chassis, a rear container for containing waste material, the rear container being mounted on the chassis, a hopper connected to the rear container and spaced above the chassis, the hopper being furthermore sloped to flow liquid toward the rear container, an automatic bin-tipping mechanism for dumping organic waste from a waste bin into the hopper, and a packer for compacting the organic waste material.

A refuse vehicle includes a chassis, a battery, a vehicle body, an electric power take-off system, a lifting system, and a disconnect. The chassis supports a plurality of wheels. The battery is supported by the chassis and is configured to provide electrical power to a first motor. Rotation of the first motor selectively drives at least one of the plurality of wheels. The vehicle body is supported by the chassis and defines a receptacle for storing refuse. The electric power take-off system is coupled to the vehicle body and includes a second motor configured to convert electrical power received from the battery into hydraulic power. The lifting system is coupled to the vehicle body and is movable relative to the receptacle using hydraulic power from the electric power take-off system. The disconnect is positioned between the battery and the electric power take-off and is configured to selectively decouple the electric power take-off system from the battery.
