Oxidation catalyst and method for its preparation

Described is a process for the preparation of a catalyst. The process comprises (i) providing a substrate which is optionally coated with one or more coating layers; (ii) impregnating one or more particulate support materials with one or more platinum group elements; (iii) adding one or more alkaline earth elements and one or more solvents to the product obtained in step (ii) to obtain a slurry; (iv) adjusting the pH of the slurry obtained in step (iii) to a value ranging from 7 to 10 (v) adjusting the pH of the slurry to a value ranging from 2 to 6; (vi) optionally milling the slurry obtained in step (v); (vii) providing the slurry obtained in step (vi) onto the optionally coated substrate in one or more coating steps. Describes is as a catalyst which is obtainable according to said process and its use in the treatment of exhaust gas.

A three-way catalyst for purifying exhaust including noble metal components, enables sintering of the noble metal to be suppressed even at high temperature, enables carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) to be removed and a method for purifying exhaust gas. A carrier having a honeycomb structure is coated with two or more layers of the catalyst compositions, an upper layer including a heat resistant inorganic oxide supporting Pd and a La-containing oxide, a lower layer including a heat resistant inorganic oxide supporting Rh. The content of La in terms of La.sub.2O.sub.3 is 9.6 g/L to 23 g/L, the content of Ce in terms of CeO.sub.2 is 5 g/L to 20 g/L, and the content of Ba in terms of BaO is 1.2 g/L or less per unit volume of the honeycomb structure.

Extruded honeycomb catalyst

An extruded honeycomb catalyst for nitrogen oxide reduction according to the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) method in exhaust gases from motor vehicles includes an extruded active carrier in honeycomb form having a first SCR catalytically active component and with a plurality of channels through which the exhaust gas flows during operation, and a washcoat coating having a second SCR catalytically active component being applied to the extruded body, wherein the first SCR catalytically active component and the second SCR catalytically active component are each independently one of: (i) vanadium catalyst with vanadium as catalytically active component; (ii) mixed-oxide catalyst with one or more oxides, in particular those of transition metals or lanthanides as catalytically active component; and (iii) an Fe- or a Cu-zeolite catalyst.

ZIRCONIA-BASED COMPOSITIONS FOR USE IN PASSIVE NOx ADSORBER DEVICES

A passive NO.sub.X adsorbent includes: palladium, platinum or a mixture thereof and a mixed or composite oxide including the following elements in percentage by weight, expressed in terms of oxide: 10-90% by weight zirconium and 0.1-50% by weight of least one of the following: a transition metal or a lanthanide series element other than Ce. Although the passive NO.sub.X adsorbent can include Ce in an amount ranging from 0.1 to 20% by weight expressed in terms of oxide, advantages are obtained particularly in the case of low-Ce or a substantially Ce-free passive NOx adsorbent.

A catalyst for treating fuel combustion exhaust, the catalyst comprising the following components: (i) an oxide support comprising silicon oxide, aluminum oxide, or combination of silicon and aluminum oxides; (ii) cerium oxide, zirconium oxide, or a combination of cerium and zirconium oxides in contact with said oxide support; and (iii) nanoparticles comprising elemental palladium or platinum in contact with at least component (ii), wherein said palladium or platinum is present in an amount of 0.1-4 wt. % by weight of the particles, and wherein surfaces of said nanoparticles of elemental palladium or palladium are exposed and accessible to said fuel combustion exhaust. The present invention relates to a catalyst comprising two layers on an inert catalyst carrier, wherein a layer A lying directly on the catalyst carrier contains at least one platinum group metal and one cerium/zirconium/SE mixed oxide, and a layer B, applied on layer A and in direct contact with the flow of exhaust gas, contains at least one platinum group metal and a cerium/zirconium/SE mixed oxide, wherein SE stands for a rare earth metal other than from cerium, characterized in that the fraction of SE oxide in the cerium/zirconium/SE mixed oxide of layer A is less than the fraction of SE oxide in the cerium/zirconium/SE mixed oxide of layer B.
