A process for increasing the productivity of equilibrium-restricted reactions and for increasing the productivity of a target compound includes the steps of (a) providing a reaction mixture comprising reactants; (b) subjecting the reaction mixture to the equilibrium reaction in a reactor or sequence of reactors, to obtain a reactor outlet mixture comprising the target compound and at least one of the reactants; (c) regenerating the loaded sorbent obtained in step (e), by flushing the loaded sorbent with the reactor outlet mixture originating from step (b), to obtain regenerated sorbent and an effluent comprising desorbed product; (d) separating the effluent originating from step (c) into a product stream and a reactant stream; and (e) a sorption step to obtain a loaded sorbent and a depleted mixture.
Ammonia synthesis converter and method for small production units
An ammonia synthesis converter for small production units which provides full access for routine maintenance and catalyst replacement while providing adequate catalyst pressure drop to ensure kinetic performance and reduce heat leak from the catalyst beds. A shell has a removable top head and an annular basket is removably mounted in the shell. First and second catalyst beds are disposed in the annular zone of the basket for axial down-flow in series. A quench gas is introduced into effluent from the first catalyst bed and the resulting mixture into a top of the second catalyst bed. A feed-effluent interchanger in the inner basket zone is adapted to receive effluent from the second catalyst bed and indirectly heat a feed to the first catalyst bed. Also, methods of operating and servicing the converter.
Co-production of methanol and ammonia
A plant for the co-production of methanol and ammonia from a hydrocarbon feed without venting to the atmosphere carbon dioxide captured from the methanol or ammonia synthesis gas and without using expensive air separation units and water gas shift.
Co-production of methanol, ammonia and urea
A process and plant for the co-production of methanol and ammonia together with urea production from a hydrocarbon feed without venting to the atmosphere carbon dioxide captured from the methanol or ammonia synthesis gas and without using expensive air separation units and water gas shift. Carbon dioxide is removed from flue gas from reforming section and used to convert partially or fully all ammonia into urea.
Method for producing unsaturated carboxylic ester
An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing an unsaturated carboxylic ester, wherein the risk of polymerization blockage is reduced and the required equipment cost and workload involved are kept low while maintaining a high conversion rate in an esterification reaction of unsaturated carboxylic acid. This object can be achieved by a method for producing an unsaturated carboxylic ester, which includes performing an esterification reaction using a reactor packed with a solid catalyst, wherein unsaturated carboxylic acid and alcohol are continuously fed to the reactor from an inlet thereof to form a fluid of the reaction solution in the reactor, and the vaporized organic solvent is continuously fed to the reactor from the inlet or a part near the inlet of the reactor.
Scale collection device for downflow reactors
The invention involves a scale collection device that is located within downflow reactor head for removing solids from feed streams to increase reactor operating cycle time without impact on effective reactor space for catalyst loading and reactor pressure drop. More particularly, a scale collection device is in an upper portion of a reactor vessel above a rough liquid distribution tray and a vapor-liquid distribution tray.
A FLUID MIXER AND A METHOD FOR MIXING FLUIDS
A fluid mixer for a reactor of a hydrocarbon processing plant includes a substantially cylindrical mixing chamber, at least one first inlet for conducting first fluid to the mixing chamber from above the mixing chamber and along a side wall of the mixing chamber to produce a spiral stream in the mixing chamber, at least one second inlet for conducting second fluid tangentially into the spiral stream, and an outlet channel for conducting the first and second fluids downwards out from the mixing chamber. The outlet channel is concentric to the mixing chamber and includes a mixing structure for enhancing mixing of the first and second fluids. At least a part of the mixing structure is located below an upper edge of the outlet channel and produces turbulence in a stream of the first and second fluids flowing in the outlet channel.
Liquid double distribution device of use in particular in an apparatus in which a liquid phase flows under gravity
A double liquid distribution device (1) suitable for use in in a fractionating or wash column (10) including a high collector tray (2) connected to a manifold support (7) via at least two longitudinal liquid downflow ducts (5, 6), the manifold support (7) supporting at least two series of transverse tubular manifolds (8, 8a 8b) and serving to feed liquid respectively to the first series of manifolds (8a) via a first longitudinal duct (5) and to the second series of manifolds (8b) via a second longitudinal duct (6), each manifold (8, 8a 8b) including distribution orifices (8c) in its under face that are suitable for distributing the liquid onto the top face of the packing bed (9). The two longitudinal liquid downflow ducts (5, 6) are connected together in a low portion (5b, 6b) by a communication device (11) fitted with a valve (12) having controlled opening that is suitable for allowing the liquid to be transferred between the two longitudinal ducts in a controlled manner.
