Sorbent design for improved glycerol adsorption
Mesoporous organosilica sorbents are effective to remove contaminants (such as glycerol or detergent) from biodiesel. Contacting biodiesel with various a mesoporous organosilica sorbents comprising phenyl and sulfonate moieties resulted in the contaminants being absorbed by the sorbent and thus removed from the biodiesel.
PROCESS FOR FILTRATION ENHANCEMENT OF AQUEOUS DISPERSIONS
A method for enhancing filtration performance in separating solids from liquids in an aqueous dispersion comprising a solids phase and a liquid phase in a two-step process having a physical separation step and a filtration step comprising adding at least one filtration aid promoter and at least one synthetic polymer to the aqueous dispersion during and/or before the physical separation step resulting in a liquid-solid separation and filtering the liquid from the solid. The method may be applied in mining operations for the filtering of mining slurries.
HYGROSCOPIC MATERIAL AND DEHUMIDIFIER USING SAME
The present invention achieves a moisture absorbing material which enables efficient dehumidification without supercooling or large heat quantity; and a dehumidifier in which the moisture absorbing material is used. The moisture absorbing material can be a dried product of a polymer gel in which an interpenetrating polymer network structure or a semi-interpenetrating polymer network structure is formed by (a) a stimuli-responsive polymer whose affinity with water changes reversibly in response to an external stimulus and (b) a hydrophilic polymer.
BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN-BASED MONOLITHS THROUGH EMULSION TEMPLATING
Provided herein is a porous β-cyclodextrin-containing monolith having a microstructure templated by the external phase of a HIPE, as well as processes of manufacturing the same and uses thereof.
HYDROPHILIC OPEN CELL FOAM
Embodiments herein are related to hydrophilic open cell foams. In an embodiment, an article is included having an open cell foam structure. The open cell foam structure can include a hydrophilic polyurethane polymer comprising a reaction product of a polyol and/or polyamine component and an isocyanate, the polyol and/or polyamine component comprising a mixture of functionalized and non-functionalized polyols and/or polyamines in a ratio by weight of about 5:95 to about 95:5 of functionalized to non-functionalized.
Method of Producing Iodine-Supporting Composite Material
Provided is an iodine-supporting composite material, which controls the volatility and elution of iodine by making iodine supported on plural kinds of activated carbon or fiber and mixing them, thereby the intensity of the bactericidal effect against microorganism can be changed. Migrating iodine from the state strongly retained in a material such as activated carbon or fibers to the material such as activated carbon or fibers having weak iodine adsorptivity which is made contacted, mixed, compounded, or mixed-spun with the strong iodine-adsorptivity materials, thereby, the rate of releasing iodine into the air or elution in water can be controlled. The iodine acts on the surrounding microorganisms in proportion to the rate at which iodine volatilizes or elutes and the intensity of these actions can be controlled.
Open-Cell Foam Environmental Indicator, and Methods of Use
A method of removing and detecting the presence of substances from at least one of a body of water and the air. The method includes placing into the body of water or into the air an open-cell foam material, removing separate portions of the open-cell foam material from the water or air at different exposure times after the open-cell foam material was placed into the water or air, and determining the presence in the removed separate portions of one or more substances that were removed from the water or air by the open-cell foam material.
Magnetic nanocomposite retrieval of nucleotide sequence
Disclosed is a process for retrieval of nucleotide sequence. The process includes mixing iron chloride tetrahydrate with iron (III) chloride hexahydrate in solution; adding ammonium hydroxide to the mixture and stirring to form maghemite nanoparticles; stirring the maghemite nanoparticles in a solution with an inorganic acid, a surfactant and a monomer precursor of a conducting polymer; initiating polymerization of the monomer by adding the inorganic acid and an oxidizing agent to the stirred solution and further stirring to yield Polyaniline/maghemite nanocomposites; adding the nanocomposites to an first aqueous solution of the nucleotide sequence and stirring so as to electrostatically interact the nanocomposites with the nucleotide sequence; and weakening the electrostatic interaction between the nanocomposite and the nucleotide sequence to recover the nanocomposite independently of the nucleotide sequence.
Use Of A Hemocompatible Porous Polymer Bead Sorbent For Removal Of Endotoxemia-Inducing Molecules
The invention concerns biocompatible polymer systems comprising at least one polymer with a plurality of pores, said polymer comprising either polyol or zwitterionic groups designed to adsorb endotoxins and other inflammatory mediator molecules. The inventions are in the field of porous polymeric sorbents, also in the field of broadly reducing endotoxins in blood and blood products that can cause endotoxemia, additionally, in the field of broadly removing endotoxins by perfusion or hemoperfusion.
Large Pore Agarose
The present invention relates to porous cross-linked agarose gel beads which have a low agarose content, a method for the preparation of the beads and their use in chromatographic applications. The beads are suitable for the separation/purification of biomolecules from a biological sample. Due to the high porosity of the beads, they are especially suitable for separation/isolation of larger particles, such as virus particles e.g. adeno virus.
