20170238607 · 2017-08-24 · ·

A smoking article is provided that includes an aerogel, which can be optionally impregnated with a catalytic metal compound or can optionally be coated with at least one aerosol-forming material and a flavoring agent. The smoking article comprises various segments such as a heat generation segment, an aerosol-generation segment, and a mouth end. The aerogel can be placed near or within any of these segments.

The presence of the aerogel can reduce the concentration of certain gaseous components of mainstream smoke generated during use of a smoking article incorporating a heat generation segment containing a fuel element.

MATERIALS FOR MOISTURE REMOVAL AND WATER HARVESTING FROM AIR

A material for moisture removal and/or water harvesting from air may include a hydrophilic material containing micropores and a low water activity material confined within the micropores of the hydrophilic material. Apparatuses containing such materials and methods for moisture removal and/or water harvesting from air by using such materials are also described.

Large Pore Agarose

The present invention relates to porous cross-linked agarose gel beads which have a low agarose content, a method for the preparation of the beads and their use in chromatographic applications. The beads are suitable for the separation/purification of biomolecules from a biological sample. Due to the high porosity of the beads, they are especially suitable for separation/isolation of larger particles, such as virus particles e.g. adeno virus.

PREPARATION METHOD AND APPLICATION OF POROUS HYDROGEL ADSORBENT BASED ON RADIX ASTRAGALI RESIDUE
20220267538 · 2022-08-25 · ·

The present disclosure provides a preparation method of a porous hydrogel adsorbent based on Radix Astragali residues, including the following steps: subjecting residues of Chinese herbal medicine Radix Astragali as a precursor to bleaching with NaClO.sub.2, alkaline washing with KOH, and high power ultrasonic treatment, thereby obtaining a precursor solution of uniformly dispersed cellulose nanofibers (CNFs); adding the precursor solution of CNFs to a mixed solution of N,N′-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA), acrylic acid (AA) and ammonium persulfate (APS), shaking evenly, and initiating a polymerization reaction at a predetermined temperature to form a monolithic gel; and cleaning the monolithic gel, putting the cleaned monolithic gel into a dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solution containing epichlorohydrin to allow reaction, and transferring the product of the reaction to an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution containing triethylene tetramine to allow reaction, thereby finally obtaining an amino-functionalized porous hydrogel adsorbent.

Polysaccharide microgels for cleaning water of petroleum and petroleum products and method for using same (variants)

The group of inventions relates to the field of organic chemistry and can be used for cleaning water, industrial and domestic waste water or waste water sediment, and for the containment and recovery of petroleum and petroleum product spills in large bodies of water, rivers, lakes and seas. In the claimed group of inventions, aqueous solutions of polysaccharide microgels, having a molecular mass of 20000-200000 daltons and a particle size of 50-600 nm, are used as a substance for cleaning water of petroleum and petroleum products. Moreover, low concentrations of polysaccharide microgels in water, ranging from 0.1 to 20 g/l, are used. Said solutions are used as a surface modifier for a filter used in separating water-oil emulsions, as a sorbent for the containment and recovery of oil spills in an aqueous medium, and also as a coagulant for the cleaning of water polluted by petroleum and petroleum products. The technical result is in making it possible to recover a commercial product, recovered during the process of cleaning water of petroleum or petroleum products, and to recover the starting substance for the reuse thereof, while simultaneously simplifying the slurry utilization process.

Porous polyurethane networks and methods of preparation

Nanoporous three-dimensional networks of polyurethane particles, e.g., polyurethane aerogels, and methods of preparation are presented herein. Such nanoporous networks may include polyurethane particles made up of linked polyisocyanate and polyol monomers. In some cases, greater than about 95% of the linkages between the polyisocyanate monomers and the polyol monomers are urethane linkages. To prepare such networks, a mixture including polyisocyanate monomers (e.g., diisocyanates, triisocyanates), polyol monomers (diols, triols), and a solvent is provided. The polyisocyanate and polyol monomers may be aliphatic or aromatic. A polyurethane catalyst is added to the mixture causing formation of linkages between the polyisocyanate monomers and the polyol monomers. Phase separation of particles from the reaction medium can be controlled to enable formation of polyurethane networks with desirable nanomorphologies, specific surface area, and mechanical properties. Various properties of such networks of polyurethane particles (e.g., strength, stiffness, flexibility, thermal conductivity) may be tailored depending on which monomers are provided in the reaction.

MULTICAPILLARY PACKING CHROMATOGRAPHY METHOD
20170259190 · 2017-09-14 ·

Chromatography method in which a gaseous, liquid or supercritical mobile phase containing species to be separated is circulated through a packing, said packing being characterized in that: it comprises a plurality of capillary ducts extending in the packing between an upstream face through which the mobile phase enters the packing and a downstream face through which the mobile phase leaves the packing—the material of the walls comprises a first population of connected pores, providing passages from one duct to the next enabling molecular diffusion to take place between adjacent ducts, pores having a mean diameter (d.sub.pore) of greater than 2 times the molecular diameter of at least one species to be separated—the diameter of the ducts is less than 50 μm.
