This invention relates generally to zeolites and polymer compositions with zeolites having enhanced adsorption capacity for adsorption of water, ammonia and other similar compounds. The invention is directed particularly to aluminosilicate zeolites, and methods for preparing zeolite entrained polymer compositions having enhanced water adsorption properties. This invention relates also to improved packaging materials with enhanced water adsorption properties incorporating the polymer compositions containing zeolites.

The measuring method for gel outflow test force includes: producing a swollen gel by allowing the water-absorbent resin particles to absorb 29 times as amount of physiological saline as the water-absorbent resin particles under stirring; evenly putting 20 g of the swollen gel in a cylinder with an inner diameter of 5 cm and having a hole with a diameter of 5 mm at a bottom part, compressing the swollen gel in the cylinder at a rate of 10 mm/min with a jig with a diameter of 4.9 cm, thereby recording a test force at a time point when a part of the swollen gel flows out from the hole at the bottom part of the cylinder, as the gel outflow test force.

The particulate material comprises a superabsorbent hydrogel comprising a cross-linked hydrophilic polymer network having from 0.1 mol % to 50 mol % cross-linking agent. The superabsorbent hydrogel has one or more compounds capable of binding the acid gas and/or mercury contaminant incorporated into the hydrophilic polymer network by absorbing said one or more compounds as a liquid phase or an aqueous solution. Methods for preparing the particulate material and using the particulate material to remove one or more acid gas and/or mercury contaminants from a hydrocarbon gas, dehydrating the hydrocarbon gas, and mitigating corrosion in gas flowlines are also disclosed.
