Product for metal adsorption

A product for adsorbing one or more heavy metals from a liquid is disclosed. The product may comprise attapulgite that has been surface functionalized with a surface coating agent that includes one or more mercury affinity functional groups that chemically bond to the attapulgite surface, wherein the weight percentage of components of the product includes: 91-99 wt. % attapulgite and 1-9 wt. % surface coating agent that includes the one or more mercury affinity functional groups. The product has a surface area in the range of 115-145 m.sup.2/g as measured using the BET method. The heavy metal includes mercury and/or lead. Also disclosed is a method of producing the product and a method of adsorbing at least one heavy metal in a liquid using the product.

Porous material and devices for performing separations, filtrations, and catalysis and EK pumps, and methods of making and using the same

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a porous monolith polymeric composition having utility in catalysis, chromatography, filtration, and electro-kinetic pumps, devices incorporating such composition and methods of making and using such monoliths. In some embodiments the monoliths can include a skeletal core having a substantially homogeneous polymeric composition of two or more organic silane monomers and pores that define an interstitial volume in the skeletal core. The pores can include macropores and less than 5% of the interstitial volume can be mesopores. Such monoliths can, in some embodiments, be disposed in a housing having at least one wall that defines a chamber such that all fluid flowing into the chamber passes through the pores of the monolith.

ZEOLITE ADSORBENTS HAVING A HIGH EXTERNAL SURFACE AREA AND USES THEREOF

The present invention concerns the use, for gas separation and/or gas drying, of at least one zeolite adsorbent material comprising at least one type A zeolite, said adsorbent having an external surface area greater than 20 m.sup.2.g.sup.1, a non-zeolite phase (PNZ) content such that O<PNZ30%, and an Si/Al atomic ratio of between 1.0 and 2.0. The invention also concerns a zeolite adsorbent material having an Si/Al ratio of between 1.0 and 2.0, a mesoporous volume of between 0.07 cm.sup.3.Math.g.sup.1 and 0.18 cm.sup.3.Math.g.sup.1, a (Vmicro-Vmeso)/Vmicro ratio of between 3 and 1.0, non-inclusive, and a non-zeolite phase (PNZ) content such that 0<PNZ30%.

ADSORBENT FOR ADSORBING VIRUS AND/OR BACTERIUM, CARBON/POLYMER COMPOSITE AND ADSORBENT SHEET

[Object] To provide an adsorbent, an adsorbent sheet, and a carbon/polymer composite for adsorbing a virus having further improved virus adsorption capability.

[Solving Means] An adsorbent for adsorbing a virus according to the present invention has a specific surface area value as measured by the nitrogen BET method of 10 m.sup.2/g or more and a pore volume as measured by the BJH method of 0.1 cm.sup.3/g or more. An adsorbent sheet for adsorbing a virus according to the present invention includes a porous carbonaceous material having a specific surface area value as measured by the nitrogen BET method of 10 m.sup.2/g or more and a pore volume as measured by the BJH method of 0.1 cm.sup.3/g or more. A carbon/polymer composite for adsorbing a virus according to the present invention includes a porous carbonaceous material having a specific surface area value as measured by the nitrogen BET method of 10 m.sup.2/g or more and a pore volume as measured by the BJH method of 0.1 cm.sup.3/g or more; and a binder.

For an increased pore fraction of pores with a diameter in a range between 0.7 micrometer and 30 micrometer shows an increased shift of the resonance frequency down to lower frequencies has been observed.
