DEVICES FOR GENERATING PRE-TEMPLATED INSTANT PARTITIONS
The invention provides devices for generating pre-templated instant partitions. The devices may include a shearing mechanism, such as a vortexer, a holder for holding a vessel containing a liquid onto the vortexer, and a temperature control unit for modulating a temperature of the vessel by convection. The invention also provides methods of using such devices to process analyte inside the pre-templated instant partitions.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR SAMPLE CHARACTERIZATION
Devices and methods for characterization of analyte mixtures are provided. Some methods described herein include performing enrichment steps on a device before expelling enriched analyte fractions from the device for subsequent analysis. Also included are devices for performing these enrichment steps.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SORTING MICROFLUIDIC PARTICLES
A single junction sorter for a microfluidic particle sorter, the single-junction sorter comprising: an input channel, configured to receive a fluid containing particles; an output sort channel and an output waste channel, each connected to the input channel for receiving the fluid therefrom; a bubble generator, operable to selectively displace the fluid around a particle to be sorted and thereby to create a transient flow of the fluid in the input channel; and a vortex element, configured to cause a vortex in the transient flow in order to direct the particle to be sorted into the output sort channel.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING PATHOGENS IN AN ENVIRONMENT VIA AN ELECTROSTATIC AIR SAMPLER
One variation of a pathogen detection system includes an air sampler and a cartridge. The air sampler includes: a housing defining an inlet and an outlet; a tunnel arranged within the housing and extending between the inlet and the outlet; a charge electrode arranged within the tunnel proximal the inlet; a cartridge receptacle arranged proximal the outlet and comprising a cartridge terminal; and a power supply configured to drive a voltage between the charge electrode and the cartridge terminal. The cartridge includes: a substrate; a collector plate arranged on the substrate and configured to collect charged bioaerosols moving through the tunnel; and a connector configured to transiently engage the cartridge receptacle to locate the substrate and the collector plate within the tunnel and electrically couple the collector plate to the cartridge terminal.
PORTABLE DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE IN THE FORM OF A CYLINDRICAL HOUSING AND USES THEREOF
A portable diagnostic device for performing the diagnosis of pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria, microorganisms, etc., by rapidly detecting their nucleic acids in a biological sample to be tested. Also, the use of the portable diagnostic device and the methods for detection of at least one nucleic acid sequence of interest implemented with the aid of the portable diagnostic device.
A POINT OF CARE DEVICE
A portable point of care device (1) for use in testing a biological sample, the device comprising: a sample collection member (4), a test cartridge (2), and a reader (220).
Device and method for liquid analysis to detect biomarkers
A device enables a user to detect biomarkers, and includes an element that defines a multiplicity of microfluidic channels that communicate between an inlet duct and an outlet duct, the inlet duct communicating with an inlet port into which a user can introduce a drop of body fluid; the outlet duct communicating with an outlet port. A resilient bladder is connected to the outlet port to provide suction. Each microfluidic channel defines a reaction chamber containing a biomarker-sensitive reagent which provides a color or a change of color in the presence of a biomarker, there being a multiplicity of different biomarker-sensitive reagents, one such biomarker-sensitive reagent being provided in each of the multiplicity of different microfluidic channels. At least part of the element is transparent so the color within the reaction chamber can be seen. The device includes a cover with magnifying lenses above the reaction chambers. The device may be used in conjunction with a smart phone.
LYSIS DEVICES HAVING A PIEZO ELEMENT AND METHODS
A lysis device including a sample vessel, at least one piezo element, and a controller is disclosed. The sample vessel has a microchannel formed therein. The sample vessel has at least one port extending through a surface to the microchannel. The piezo element is attached to the surface of the sample vessel. The controller has logic to cause the controller to emit a first signal including a series of frequencies to the at least one piezo element to cause the at least one piezo element to generate ultrasonic acoustic standing waves in the sample vessel, to receive a second signal indicative of measured vibration signals from the sample vessel detected by the at least one piezo element, and to determine a resonant frequency of the sample vessel using the measured vibration signals.
Apparatus for applying thermal energy to a receptacle and detecting an emission signal from the receptacle
An apparatus for performing nucleic acid amplification reactions includes a thermally-conductive receptacle holder with multiple receptacle wells. Each well has a through-hole extending from an inner surface of the well to an outer surface of the holder. A cover is rotatable between an open position and a closed position relative to the holder and is configured to exert a force onto any receptacles in the wells when the cover is in the closed position. The apparatus includes multiple optical fibers, and each of the optical fibers provides optical communication between one of the wells and an excitation signal source and/or an emission signal detector. A thermal element is positioned between a thermally-conductive support and the receptacle holder.
Automated liquid-phase immunoassay apparatus
Disclosed is an automated liquid-phase immunoassay apparatus used with a cuvette having a plurality of chambers containing a reagent necessary for detection of an analyte in a biological specimen. The apparatus includes a movable cuvette module equipped with the cuvette, an optical reading module for optical assaying of a material resulting from a reaction between the specimen and the reagent, and a dispenser module which is positioned on the cuvette module and which dispenses the specimen and the reagent to the plurality of chambers of the cuvette and washes the specimen and the reagent therefrom.
