A splitter is provided for mounting on the leading face of a cutting assembly to be mounted on a brush cutter. In one embodiment, the splitter is preferably mounted below the cutting portion of the tooth such that as wood is cut, the cut wood is directed onto the splitter for further cutting. The tooth is mounted to cut tangentially with respect to the rotation of the cutter, while the splitter cuts radially and outwardly with respect to the rotation of the cutter. In this manner, a cutting mechanism is provided that is capable of cutting tangentially and radially simultaneously. The flow of cut wood is directed out of from the cutting assembly, thus facilitating the removal of the cutting debris away from the tooth holder and the cutting tooth, thereby cleaning the tooth of any debris and preventing wood and other debris from getting lodged within the cutting assembly.

A cutter assembly is presented for mounting to one or more hammers of a rotor assembly of a grinding machine. The cutter assembly includes a base, a tip and a fastener securing the base and the tip to the hammer. The base includes a key having side walls extending upwardly from a surface of the base and spatially oriented as sides of a pyramid that is truncated before reaching their apex. The tip includes a keyway having side walls extending inwardly from a lower surface into a body of the tip and spatially oriented as sides of a pyramid. The keyway mates with the key of the base. The tip includes at least one, and preferably two, cutting edges disposed on opposing ends of the tip. In one embodiment, the tip is reversibly mountable to the base such that the cutting edges may be selectively used within grinding operations. In one embodiment, at least a portion of side walls of the truncated pyramid key and keyway are curved in a plane parallel to the surface of the base.

Method and device for grinding strand-like fibrous material

A method and a device for grinding strand-like fibrous material, wherein the strand-like fibrous material is fed towards the cutting edge of a cutting mechanism and wherein a moveable striking mechanism for grinding the fibrous material cooperates with the cutting mechanism. Associated with the cutting mechanism is a moveable clamping mechanism, by means of which the fibrous material is clamped in an oscillating manner. To produce optimally uniform fibrous shreds, as defined by the position of the cutting edge, the fibrous material is guided through an oscillating clamping gap formed between the clamping mechanism and the cutting mechanism, wherein the clamping mechanism is guided in a back and forth clamping movement relative to the cutting mechanism. For this purpose, the clamping gap is formed by arranging the clamping mechanism and the cutting mechanism opposite one another in a clamping plane.
