A blind tack fastener includes a pull stem having an elongated shaft with an extended tail portion. The blind tack fastener also includes a crush-initiating washer, a crush sleeve, and a swage collar, surrounding the elongated shaft of the pull stem. The elongated shaft has a breakaway groove configured to create a predictive fracture point below the head-end surface of the swage collar, such that a hole in the swage collar serves as a centering lead-in for a drill that can be used to remove the blind tack fastener.

Method and Joining Element for Joining at Least Two Components by Means of a Flow-Formed Rivet Sleeve

A method for joining at least two components, in particular two sheet components of a vehicle body, by a flow-formed rivet sleeve is disclosed. The flow-formed rivet sleeve includes a cladding region, a first edge region, and a second edge region. A traction shaft including a base body and a head is introduced in the flow-formed rivet sleeve and the flow-formed rivet sleeve is inserted into respective through openings of the components. By a relative movement of the traction shaft to the flow-formed rivet sleeve, the flow-formed rivet sleeve is widened in the first edge region and is brought into contact with one of the components. The second edge region is bent towards the other component by a reshaping tool surrounding the traction shaft and is brought into contact with the other component.

HYBRID WORKPIECE JOINING

A method for joining a plurality of workpieces includes providing a rotating drive tool. A fastener is secured to the drive tool. The drive tool is then rotatably driven such that a distal end of the fastener rotates against a surface of the plurality of workpieces. A heated material zone is then generated on the plurality of workpieces as caused by friction from the rotation of the fastener against the surface of the plurality of workpieces. The distal end of the fastener is rotatably and axially driven through the heated material zone. Finally, the drive tool is removed from the fastener, such that when the heated material zone cools, a portion of the heated material zone is fused to the fastener.

A method for coupling a first structure to a second structure is disclosed. The method includes providing a rivet having a shaft with a first end and a second end, a head positioned at the first end, and a cavity formed in the second end and extending along an axis of the shaft. The method also includes positioning the first structure and the second structure against each other and inserting the second end through the first structure and the second structure until the head contacts the first structure and the second end extends past the second structure. The method further includes positioning a first flat tool and a second flat tool against the head and the second end, respectively, and moving the first flat tool and the second flat tool toward each other until the second end expands radially against the second structure.

Electric blind rivet setting device
RE046857 · 2018-05-22 · ·

The present invention provides a small electric blind rivet setting device that is capable of being driven by a battery and that does not require a pathway for recovering the broken mandrels to be provided in the motor shaft. A recovery container 10 is provided in a tool housing 27 forward of an electric motor 13 in the axial direction, and a spindle 14, which rotates because of the rotation of a drive shaft 18 connected to the electric motor circumventing the recovery container, is connected so as to move a pulling head (30) in the axial direction. The positive rotation, stopping of rotation and reverse rotation of the electric motor are controlled by a pulling operation on a trigger and detecting the position of the pulling head in the axial direction.

A blind rivet fastening device in which a passage for collecting broken mandrels is provided other than on the axis of the motor. A large collection chamber is provided for broken mandrels. A collection chamber for broken mandrels is provided in front of a brushless electric motor in the axial direction. When the electric motor rotates, power from the electric motor is transmitted to a spindle positioned to the rear of the collection chamber via a second shaft positioned below the collection chamber. When the spindle rotates, a pulling head moves in the axial direction. The axial position of the pulling head is determined by detecting the rotation count of the electric motor. Forward rotation, reverse rotation, and stopping of the electric motor are controlled based on the operation of a trigger and the axial position of the pulling head. Excessive torque is avoided by clutches.

A blind rivet fastening device including a dual function crutch device. The crutch releases at the rear end position RP of the pulling head and the crutch slips at the home position HP. The device includes a spindle crutch axially movable with respect to the spindle and integrally rotated, and a nut crutch integrally formed with the ball screw nut. The spindle crutch can move in the axial direction and can release from the nut crutch. The spindle crutch also has a first segment portion; one end of the first segment portion is a vertical plane and the other end is a slanted plane. The nut crutch has second segment portions of complementary shape. When the pulling head reaches the rear end position RP, the crutch is disengaged. When the pulling head returns to the home position HP, the inclined faces of the crutch slip with each other.

Sealing arrangement of a battery filling port using a rivet

A sealed battery includes a filling hole, and a gasket and a blind rivet that seal the filling hole. A tapered surface that is inclined toward an inside of a battery case is formed around the filling hole of the battery case. The filling hole is sealed by the gasket and the blind rivet by the blind rivet plastic deforming.
