Machine for continuous casting of a lead alloy for forming grids for plates of electric storage batteries, which comprises a rotary drum having an external peripheral surface with a plurality of grooves obtained according to the grid design to be made and a sliding block coupled in sliding relation with the external surface of the rotary drum and with a distribution duct obtained in order to insert the molten lead in the plurality of grooves. The plurality of grooves comprises circumferential notches and transverse notches that meet in respective vertices. A shoe for dispensing a molten metal such as lead into a mold cavity of a rotating drum to continuously cast a web of a plurality of serially connected grids or battery composite electrodes of a carbon fiber material with a cast metal conductor. The shoe may have at least one elongate orifice slot in a face confronting the drum, a molten metal supply passage communicating with the orifice slot and an excess molten metal return slot opening into the confronting face downstream of the supply slot relative generally to the direction of rotation of the drum.

A method of making an apparatus for continuously casting a lead alloy strip includes providing a drum having an aluminum outer circumferential casting surface. The outer circumferential casting surface of the drum is abraded with an angular abrading medium to wear away material from the aluminum outer circumferential casting surface of the drum and to create a coarse, irregular, and non-smooth abraded casting surface configured to reduce the rate of heat transfer and slow cooling of the lead alloy strip cast on the abraded casting surface.
Device for the production of lead grid electrodes for lead acid batteries in a continuous casting process
A device for casting electrode grids for producing lead acid batteries in a continuous casting process. The device includes a casting wheel and a casting shoe which rests on an outer circumference of the casting wheel. Liquid lead exiting the casting shoe flows into a concave mold of the casting wheel surface and is removable as a solidified lead strip. The casting shoe is made up of two or more zones, at least a first hot zone with a temperature above the melting point of lead and a second, thermally separated zone with a temperature below the melting point of lead. Cooling the lead strip from two sides (the wheel side and the shoe side) avoids columnar crystal formation and increases the casting speed to 40 meter per minute and above. Thermal isolation of the lead feeding tube avoids re-flowing of lead to a lead pot, reducing PbO formation.

A magnesium alloy cast-rolling unit, including: a main body; a fluid supplier; an electric pushrod; a linkage mechanism; a horizontal platform; a screw; dovetail guide rails; and a bottom plate. The main body includes a base, a spring cylinder, a hydraulic adjustment cylinder, a connection portion, and a cast-rolling unit body. The connection portion includes an arc-shaped rail. The spring cylinder includes an actuation element. The actuation element includes a piston rod and a pressure strip. The piston rod includes an external thread at one end; and the pressure strip includes an internal thread corresponding to the external thread. The fluid supplier includes a head box, a corrugated pipe, a compression spring assembly including a gland cover, a connection pipe including a convex pipe joint and a concave pipe joint, a flat plate including a groove, a smelting furnace, and a horizontal operation platform.

A side dam for a continuous twin roll caster with a body of refractory material shaped to form a side dam and having edge portions adapted to engage end portions of casting rolls of a twin roll caster and having a nip portion adapted to be adjacent a nip between the casting rolls and having upper portions extending across the side dam to form a lateral restraint for a casting pool of molten metal during operation in the twin roll caster; and a pocket between 5 and 50 mm in depth formed in the body between the edge portions and forming shoulder portions in the body between the edge portions and the pocket adapted to be worn as a casting campaign continues until the pocket is reached and continuing to be worn away at level of base portions of the pocket until casting is completed.

A containment system for laterally containing a liquid metal material or liquid metal alloy at an open side end of a passage defined between two casting members, the system including a pneumatic device ending with a hollow end element adapted to be arranged close to the open side end of the passage, wherein the hollow end element defines a chamber therein, wherein the pneumatic device is adapted to feed a compressed aeriform substance into the chamber, and wherein the hollow end element is provided with at least one blowing face for blowing the compressed aeriform substance from the chamber towards a side containment zone for the liquid metal.
METHOD FOR CASTING METAL STRIP WITH CROWN CONTROL
A method and apparatus of continuously casting thin strip by controlling roll crown is provided. The apparatus for continuously casting thin strip by controlling roll crown includes at least two expansion rings positioned within and adjacent a cylindrical tube and spaced within 450 mm of edge portions of the cast strip formed on opposite end portions of casting rolls during a casting campaign. Alternatively or in addition, the apparatus includes at least one expansion ring within the cylindrical tube at a position corresponding to center portions of the cast strip formed on the casting rolls during a casting campaign. Each expansion ring has at least one heating element and an insulating coating thereon and is adapted to increase in radial dimension causing the cylindrical tube to expand changing roll crown of the casting surfaces of the casting rolls and thickness profile of the cast strip during casting.
Strip Casting
A continuous casting apparatus and method is disclosed for casting a metal strip with a cross sectional form which varies along the length of the strip. The apparatus comprises: opposing cooling means; a molten metal feed system positionable to provide a molten metal feed for solidification between the opposing cooling means to form a solidified metal strip along a length direction; and a form adjustment system. The form adjustment system comprises at least one dam to determine, at least in part, the cross sectional form of the molten metal feed to the opposing cooling means. In this way, it is possible to determine the cross sectional form of the solidified metal strip. The dam is moveable during operation of the apparatus to vary the cross sectional form of the molten metal feed to the opposing cooling means. The apparatus further comprises a molten metal pressure control system, operable to control the pressure of the molten metal in the molten metal feed during operation of the apparatus in coordination with movement of the dam. Optionally, the dam acts as a diverter, operational to divert the flow of molten metal to form an opening in the cast strip.
