HYBRID METHODS OF ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
20200086555 · 2020-03-19 · ·

A hybrid method of additive manufacturing is provided. The method includes providing a powder material and fusing, by a first heat source, a portion of the powder material to form a three-dimensional structure. The three-dimensional structure can define a fill region at least partially filled with the powder material. The method further includes fusing, by a second heat source, the powder material in the fill region. Fusing the powder material in the fill region can solidify the powder material in the fill region and fuse the powder material to the three-dimensional structure for forming a solid object.

3D PRINTER AND 3D PRINTING

A 3D printing system comprising: a selective solidification module to: form a printed article by processing a build material; and form a printed container encompassing the printed article and a portion of unused build material about the printed article, the printed container defining a first port and a second port fluidly connected to the first port. The 3D printing system further comprises a connector to couple to the first port or second port of the printed container; and a pump fluidly connected to the connector to cause a fluid to flow through the printed container from the first port to the second port such that the printed article is cooled by the fluid flow.

The manufacture of a casing which has a boss includes providing two canister portions a first defining an outer wall geometry of a casing including a boss and a second defining an inner wall geometry of the casing. The casing is made using known PHIP methods. The second canister portion includes an array of holes or recesses which, when the canister portions are aligned, face a recess on the first canister portion which defines the boss such that in the nett shape COS an array of pedestals is provided aligned with the boss. The dimension from an exposed end of a pedestal to an exposed surface of the boss is sufficient to receive a bolt thread of the minimum length required to secure a component to the boss.

Isostatic pressing

A method of fabricating a component is described and involves retaining a canister as an integral part of the component after performing an isostatic pressing process. The method comprises: providing a canister having a canister wall that encloses an internal cavity, the canister wall comprising at least a first wall section and a second wall section, where the first wall section and the second wall section are of different materials; filling the internal cavity with a powdered material; performing an isostatic pressing process on the filled canister to consolidate the powder; and retaining the canister as an integral part of the component such that an internal structure of the component comprises the consolidated powder and the canister wall forms at least part of a surface of the component that covers the internal structure.

Manufacturing method of rare-earth magnet

A manufacturing method of a rare-earth magnet includes: manufacturing a first sealing body by filling a graphite container with a magnetic powder to be a rare-earth magnet material and by sealing the graphite container; manufacturing a sintered body by sintering the first sealing body to manufacture a second sealing body in which the sintered body is accommodated; and manufacturing a rare-earth magnet by performing hot plastic working on the second sealing body to give magnetic anisotropy to the sintered body.

Scintered powder metal shaped charges

A shaped charge includes a casing defining an interior volume, wherein the casing is prepared by sintering a metal powder or a mixture of metal powders; a liner located in the interior volume; and an explosive between the liner and the casing. A method for manufacturing a shaped charge casing includes the steps of mixing a metal powder or a metal powder mixture with a binder to form a pre-mix; pressing the pre-mix in a mold to form a casing green body; heating the casing green body to a first temperature to vaporize the binder; raising the temperature to a second temperature in an inert or reducing atmosphere to sinter the metal powder or the metal powder mixture to produce the shaped charge casing.
