MODULAR DRILL HAVING CLAMP AND BUMP SURFACES FOR LOCKING AND UNLOCKING AN INSERT
A modular drill includes a drill body, an insert, and a retaining member. The drill body includes a center hole extending through a first surface of the drill body, and a side hole extending at an actuation location through a second surface of the drill body. The center hole and the side hole intersect within the drill body. The insert is moveably disposed in the center hole. The retaining member is threadedly attached to and moveably disposed in the side hole. The retaining member includes a clamp surface and a bump surface. The clamp surface is disposed closer to the actuation location than the bump surface. When the retaining member is rotated in one direction the clamp surface forces the insert into a locked position. When the retaining member is rotated in another direction the bump surface bumps the insert out of the locked position.
Indexable center drill structure
An indexable center drill structure comprises a holder, an insert, and at least two screws. The screws are locked to at least two screw holes of the holder and at least two positioning holes of the insert. Through cooperation of two positioning posts and two positioning notches of the holder and the insert, the insert is fixed and locked to an insert attachment seat of the holder in a longitudinal direction and in a transverse direction. Thus, the locking strength between the insert and the holder is increased, and the overall structure is simplified.
Modular drill apparatus with cutting tip in situ insert assembly
A modular drill apparatus (100) includes: a shank (110) having a pocket (112); a cylindrical post (117) centrally secured within a bottom (114) of the pocket (112); a cutting tip (130) including a lower portion (131) including a central bore (136) which receives the cylindrical post (117), an upper portion (132) and a channel (134) therebetween; and an insert assembly (150) interfitted within and supported by the channel (134), the insert assembly (150) being expandable along a length thereof for securing the cutting tip (130) to the shank (110) within the pocket (112) by providing an interference fit and retractable along the length thereof for releasing the cutting tip (130) from the pocket (112) by overcoming the interference fit.
MODULAR DRILL WITH ENHANCED BUMP-OFF CAPABILITY
A rotary cutting tool with enhanced bump-off capability is disclosed. The cutting tool includes a tool shank having a pocket. A replaceable cutting head is at least partially disposed within the pocket of the tool shank with an interference fit. A coupling pin assembly is at least partially received within a bore of the tool shank. The coupling pin assembly comprises a sleeve member and a coupling pin at least partially disposed within the sleeve member. The sleeve member includes an upper portion and a lower portion having a non-circular cross-sectional shape with a bump-off surface. An actuation screw contacts the coupling pin assembly and causes the replaceable cutting head to move relative to the tool shank. The bump-off surface of the lower portion of the sleeve member extends radially outward with respect to the coupling pin by a distance, D, thereby providing enhanced bump-off capability.
DRILL HEAD, TIP EXCHANGE DRILL, AND DRILL
A drill head is rotated about a center axis. The drill head includes: a mounting surface that is an end face in a direction of the center axis; a tip surface that is an opposite surface to the mounting surface in the direction of the center axis; an outer peripheral surface continuous to the mounting surface and the tip surface; a cutting edge extending from the outer peripheral surface toward the center axis in the tip surface; a flute that is formed on the outer peripheral surface and extends spirally around the center axis from the tip surface to the mounting surface; and a thinning surface continuous to the tip surface and the flute. The tip surface includes: a first flank surface continuous to the cutting edge; and a second flank surface located on a side opposite to the first flank surface with the flute interposed therebetween.
MODULAR TOOL AND METHOD FOR EJECTING AN INSERT OF A MODULAR TOOL
The invention relates to a modular tool comprising a body and an insert for machining a workpiece, wherein the insert comprises a tenon for insertion into a receptacle of the body, wherein the body comprises an access hole, through which the tenon is accessible for an assembly tool, wherein the tenon comprises a profile portion, which, upon insertion of the assembly tool into the access hole, engages with a lateral surface of the assembly tool so that, by a rotation of the assembly tool, the insert can be ejected from the receptacle. Furthermore, a method for ejecting an insert of such a modular tool is specified.
APPARATUS COMPRISING A ROTARY TOOL, AND METHOD FOR ATTACHING AND DETACHING A CUTTING INSERT ON SUCH AN APPARATUS
An apparatus is specified that comprises a rotary tool, wherein the rotary tool extends along a longitudinal axis and in an axial direction, wherein the rotary tool comprises a body, a cutting insert and a clamping rod, wherein the body has a shank on the rear-facing end, for clamping into a bracket, wherein the clamping rod extends through the body in the axial direction, wherein the clamping rod is adapted on the front-facing end to attach the cutting insert, wherein the clamping rod extends rearward towards the shank and can be actuated by means of a tool to attach the cutting insert to, or to detach the latter from, the body, wherein the clamping rod comprises an access hole arranged such that the clamping rod can be actuated while the rotary tool is clamped in the bracket. Further, a method for attaching or detaching a cutting insert on such an apparatus is specified.
Cutting tool with modular pocket wall
A cutting tool includes a base body and a cutting head at least partially disposed within a modular pocket of the base body. The modular pocket is formed by at least one wall section removably attached to the base body. In one variation, a non-removable portion of the base body also forms part of the modular pocket. In another variation, the modular pocket is formed by two removable wall sections on opposite sides of the modular pocket. In yet another variation, the removable wall sections include a clamping portion to exert a downward force on the cutting head to enable mounting the cutting head in the modular pocket using an interference fit.
