The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for converting metal-containing waste wood material into livestock bedding having a reduced metal content. Waste wood, such as used or broken pallets is placed in a hammermill having a screen with holes of a larger diameter. The output of that hammermill is then placed in a hammermill having a screen with holes of a smaller diameter. A crossbelt system of magnets is passed across the waste wood to remove nails and other metal contaminates from the waste wood to produce a low metal content livestock bedding having particles of a consistent size.

The third sheet is made up of permeable and non-permeable material. The first sheet collects bodily waste of the pet and absorbs the bodily waste. The third sheet collects excess bodily waste flowing out of the first sheet, and the second sheet prevents spread of the bodily waste over a surface.

A soft fabric layer then wraps the gel layer together with a light sponge layer into an integrated pad. An anti-slip layer can be added to the bottom to provide more stable grip to the surface the pad is place upon, especially when the pad is used in a moving vehicle to transport pets. Optionally, the soft fabric layer can be made to be waterproof, easy for a pet owner to take care of and/or clean the pad products.

The material may be obtained in the form of particles having a low density and a high porosity, and is usable in conjunction with an animal litter for detecting various diseases in animals.
