A mounting mechanism for connecting a tractor unit to a guide track, the mounting mechanism includes a fixed block having a first set of rolling devices and a movable plate having a second set of rolling devices. The distance between the first and second sets of rolling devices is adjustable by moving the movable plate to engage or disengage the tractor unit to the guide track. A clamping assembly is provided with a shaft, cam spring, and cam handle for adjusting the distance between the first and second rolling devices. When the cam handle is in an open position, the distance between the rolling devices is greater than the width of the guide track and when the cam handle is in a closed position the distance between the rolling devices is approximately equal to the width of the guide track.

The invention described herein generally pertains to a system and method related to detecting a change in height during a welding operation and adjusting one or more welding parameters based on such detected change in height. In particular, a change in a height can be related to two or more revolutions on the workpiece in which the change is due to material being deposited onto the workpiece from the welding operation. Since the material deposited onto the workpiece changes the height of the electrode to the workpiece, one or more welding parameters can be adjusted for compensation. Specifically, an electrode speed can be adjusted to compensate for a change in the height, wherein the electrode speed is a rate that the electrode moves adjacent to the workpiece.

Machining apparatus

A differential device including a planetary gear mechanism having a sub-gear, an annular gear and a planetary gear is more compact than a differential gear using a bevel gear mechanism. Since revolution torque of the planetary gear is transmitted to a free gear, and torque from the main gear is reduced to be transmitted, the differential device can use a small-sized drive unit in comparison with a conventional one. Hence, a machining apparatus including such a differential device is also compact. If the machining apparatus has three drive units, a pair of ring gears, first and second power transmission shafts, a radial movement mechanism and an axial movement mechanism, a tool holder, namely, a tool coupled to the radial movement mechanism and the axial movement mechanism, can be freely moved in axial and radial directions with respect to the pipe.
