A folding knife is provided with a power storage device that can be charged and recharged by a charge component that wirelessly receives power from a remote source. In some embodiments, the folding knife can have a device that consumes energy such as a light, a camera, a microphone, an audio speaker, a display, etc. The power storage device and the charge component can be positioned in a scale of the handle where the substantially planar shapes of the scale, the power storage device, and the charge component are oriented in a common direction. In some embodiments, the cavities, recesses, and channels in the first scale that house these components and linking wires are strategically positioned to leave a reinforcing area that provides strength and stiffness to the handle. Various features also described improve safety of the charging system and provide connectivity with external computing systems and electronic devices.

The disclosed locking folding knife with clip actuator combines a locking mechanism with a clip mechanism. This results in a reduction of the number of required parts, simplifying the knife while maintaining functionality. The blade of the knife pivots with respect to the handle. In the preferred embodiment the blade rotates about a pin, the pin optionally surrounded by a bushing. The pin about which the knife rotates is an extension of one of the arms of the clip.

A bolster-actuated folding knife may have a folding knife blade whose opening and closing is controlled by an actuator on the knife's handle. This bolster-actuator may rotate in either of two rotational directions about the same pivot as the knife blade. When a user rotates the bolster-actuator in one direction, the bolster's pin may impinge via direct contact with the knife blade forcing the knife blade fully open. When a rotates the bolster-actuator in the opposite direction bolster-actuator rotation and thus bolster pin deflection may cause the knife's locking tab to disengage from a cutout in the knife blade, unlocking the knife blade from its fully locked-open position and urging the knife blade to close. Thus, the bolster-actuated folding knife may provide a convenient means to open and close a locking, folding knife with only one hand, and without substantial interference with the knife's aesthetic appeal.

A lockable tool with a sliding scale release is formed with a frame and a tool coupled to the frame with a locking mechanism to lock the tool into an extended or retracted configuration. A release mechanism is attached a scale on the side of the frame. The scale is coupled to the frame. The tool is constructed such that sliding the scale along a longitudinal axis of the frame automatically unlocks the tool from the extended or retracted configurations. The tool can open and/or close automatically. The tool, such as a knife, can swing open or extend out a front opening in the frame.

A decoupled lock is disclosed. One embodiment provides a knife having a handle pivotably attached to a knife blade, the knife blade having a closed position within the handle and an open position extended from the handle, and a decoupled lock having a blade engagement portion to lock the blade and a user interface portion to disengage the blade engagement portion, wherein the blade engagement portion is biased toward a locked position and the user interface portion disengages the blade engagement portion when the blade is in the open position and is decoupled from the blade engagement portion with the blade in the closed position. A utility tool with at least one blade that is capable of being disposed at least partially within the body of the utility tool. The at least one blade may swivel around an access of rotation and engage with a locking mechanism to keep the blade secure when in use and secure in the body when in a closed position.

A spring urged release locking arm is slidably disposed within the knife handle by guide pins. A locking arm projection is engaged on a blade shank retainment locking pin allowing selective repositioning of the locking pin during operation releasing the blade from closed retained position to fully open and extended lock position upon locking arm movement.

A folding knife includes a handle, a first liner inside the handle, and a second liner inside the handle and opposed to the first liner. A blade has a tang and a cutting edge, and the tang of the blade pivotally connects the blade between the first and second liners. The blade has a retracted position in which the cutting edge is inside the handle and a deployed position in which the cutting edge is outside the handle. An actuator is at least partially between the first and second liners, and a spring is between the first and second liners and in compression against the actuator so that the spring biases the actuator toward the tang of the blade.
