According to one implementation, a composite material molding jig includes a rigid portion and a convex portion for forming a groove for inserting an optical fiber sensor. The rigid portion has a surface for laminating prepreg sheets. The convex portion is formed in a surface side of the rigid portion. Further, according to one implementation, a composite material molding method is a method for molding a composite material, on which the groove for inserting the optical fiber sensor has been formed, by heating and curing a laminated body of the prepreg sheets laminated on the above-mentioned composite material molding jig.

Method and Apparatus to Produce Auxetic Foam

In methods and apparatuses for producing auxetic foam from conventional foam, conventional foam is compressed into a mold before thermal, chemical or thermo-chemical treatment processes are performed. A segmented mold is accommodated in a compressing apparatus. After compressing the foam between the mold segments, the mold is fastened shut and removed from the compressing apparatus. The forces applied to any given volume of foam and the amounts by which the foam is compressed while being processed are controlled to impart desired mechanical properties to the produced foam. Poisson's ratio and density of discrete portions of finished foam shapes are reliably predicted and controlled to achieve uniform and non-uniform mechanical properties within a single continuous quantity of foam.

Method for composite flow molding

An apparatus for molding a part includes a plunger cavity, a plunger, and a mold cavity, wherein the plunger is oriented out-of-plane with respect to a major surface of the mold cavity, and first and second vents couples to respective first and second portions of the mold cavity. In a method, resin and fiber are forced into the mold cavity from a plunger cavity, and at least some of the fibers and resin are preferentially flowed to certain region in the mold cavity via the use of vents.

Template replication

Methods, systems, and apparatus for identifying dimensional attributes of a first active area of a template; based at least in part on the dimensional attributes of the first active area, determining a desired magnification correction of a second active area of a substrate; determining an out-of-plane distortion of the template, the substrate, or both; applying a back pressure to the template, the substrate, or both, to compensate for the out-of-plane distortion of the template, the substrate, or both; after compensating for the out-of-plane distortion of the template, the substrate, or both: i) contacting an imprint resist positioned on the substrate with the template such that pattern features in the first active area are filled by the imprint resist, and ii) applying an additional back pressure to the template, the substrate, or both, wherein the additional back pressure is selected such that the second active area exhibits the desired magnification correction.

IMPROVED AIR PRESSURE CONTROL FOR CORRUGATOR

In the manufacture of double-walled corrugated extruded pipe it is desirable to form an integral connecting cuff that is of a single wall thickness and typically of a large diameter. The mold blocks and process parameters for forming of the cuff as part of an otherwise double-walled pipe requires a transition as the cuff moves past the die outlets. The present invention allows for accurate sensing and control of air pressure and temperature as the cuff moves past the die outlets. Improvements in both the die tooling and the method of manufacture are disclosed.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING ARTICLES MADE FROM CRUMB RUBBER

A process for manufacturing an article made of recovered rubber crumb is provided. According to the process:

a) crumb particles are mixed with particles of a solute;

b) a molded article is produced by molding the mixture from step a) in a closed mold under predetermined temperature and pressure conditions; and

c) the molded article is brought into contact with a solvent so as to dissolve at least one portion of the particles of said solute.

An apparatus and process for forming material, the apparatus or process comprising at least one forming unit, each said forming unit having at least one forming opening to receive a feed of material to be formed, the at least one of said forming opening(s) comprises opposing or at least one forming surfaces, at least one of said opposing forming surfaces being dynamically controllable into a pre-determined shape or profile to impart a resultant shape or profile of a pre-determined formation upon the feed of material passing through said forming opening of a said forming unit.

Polymer composite material having oriented electrically and thermally conductive pathways

A method of forming a polyolefin-perovskite nanomaterial composite which contains oriented electrically and thermally conductive pathways. The method involves milling a polyolefin with particles of a perovskite nanomaterial, molding to forma composite plate, and subjecting the composite plate to an AC voltage. The AC voltage forms oriented electrically and thermally conductive pathways by partial dielectric breakdown of the composite. The presence of the oriented electrically and thermally conductive pathways gives the polyolefin-perovskite nanomaterial electrical and thermal conductivity and dielectric permittivity higher than the polyolefin alone.

Rapidly heating and cooling composite mats comprised of cellulose and thermoplastic polymer

In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure, a method producing a composite board comprising plastic and cellulose is described. The method includes transmitting a first signal to a pair of opposing hot-platens, receipt of the first signal causing the pair of opposing hot-platens to compress and heat a composite mat; transmitting a second signal to the pair of opposing hot-platens, receipt of the second signal causing the pair of opposing hot-platens to heat and compress the composite mat at substantially a first pressure for a first time period; transmitting a third signal to the pair of opposing hot-platens, receipt of the third signal causing the pair of opposing hot-platens to release the composite mat from the first pressure; and transmitting a fourth signal to a pair of opposing cold-platens, receipt of the fourth signal causing the pair of opposing cold-platens to compress and cool the composite mat.
