A soil apparatus (e.g., seed firmer) having a base portion for engaging in soil of an agricultural field, and the base portion is adapted for connection to an agricultural implement; a window in the base portion; a wear resistant insert disposed in or on the base portion in one or more locations selected from the group consisting of i) ahead of the window in a direction of travel of the soil apparatus through soil and disposed on the base portion, ii) ahead of the window in a direction of travel of the soil apparatus through soil and disposed in the base portion, wherein the base portion has a ground engaging portion, the ground engaging portion has a greater wear resistance than the base portion, iii) above the window, and iv) below the window.

AGRICULTURAL ROW UNIT ACCESSORY

A tool assembly is provided for a planter row unit and resides at the forward end of the row unit beneath the tool bar. The assembly includes a bracket assembly connected to the row unit, with a ground engaging tool removably mounted on the bracket assembly for movement between raised and lowered positions. A linear actuator controls the position of the tool. The tool may also include a depth control mechanism. Different tools can be interchanged on the bracket assembly.

The invention also relates to a cutting and seeding assembly for mounting on the seeding apparatus.

A trailing assembly for an agricultural planter is attached to a frame element of the agricultural planter with a mounting bracket. A walking beam having a hub at an intermediate position along a length of the walking beam is pivotably attached to the mounting bracket. A first pair of arms extends from the hub in a first direction, with each arm configured with a shaft to rotatably and selectively receive a first rotating implement, for example, a closing wheel or a fertilizer opener disc. A second pair of arms extends from the hub in a second direction parallel to each other and spaced apart from each other. Distal ends of the second pair of arms are configured to rotatably and selectively receive and support opposing ends of an axle of another rotating implement, for example, a press wheel, positioned between the second set of arms.

An agricultural implement includes a frame, a first row of row units coupled to the frame, and a second row of row units coupled to the frame. The second row of row units is positioned behind the first row of row units relative to a direction of travel, and each row unit is configured to deposit seeds into the soil. The agricultural implement also includes a row of fertilizer applicators coupled to the frame and positioned between the first row and the second row of row units relative to the direction of travel. Each fertilizer applicator is laterally positioned between one row unit of the first row and one row unit of the second row that is laterally adjacent to the one row unit of the first row, and each fertilizer applicator is configured to direct displaced soil laterally toward the one row unit of the second row.

Articulated component braking system

An air seeder cart has a fill auger pivotally mounted to the frame of the air seeder cart and moveable to position the fill auger for filling seed hoppers. The swivel joint for the air seeder has a brake assembly biased by a spring to prevent movement in the absence of an input. A remotely positioned lever and cable assembly unlock the brake assembly for movement to a new position upon an operator input to the lever.
