The present invention relates to, in general, a welding end effector apparatus configured for welding a plastic component. The welding end effector apparatus typically comprises a frame structure supporting a welding tip. The welding end effector apparatus further comprises a plastic weld rod feeder apparatus configured for delivering a plastic weld rod to the welding tip. The welding tip is configured to deposit at least partially deformed plastic weld rod onto the plastic component for welding the plastic component. The frame is configured to operatively couple the welding end effector to a multi-axis robotic arm for welding the component.

A hand-held, portable floor seam sealing device is provided that has universal application to many commercially available floor sheet materials, including vinyl, linoleum, rubber, sport floors as well as other flooring sheet materials. The device employs a seam sealing welding gun and a nozzle of unique configuration defining a cavity bounded by a front end with two rows of at least eight air jet apertures directed toward a gap formed between forwardly projecting glue stick receiving flanges. The nozzle also through has a downwardly directed fin that terminates in a multiplicity of downwardly directed air jet discharge apertures. As the device is moved along the length of a seam between adjacent sheets of flooring, hot air from the apertures in the downwardly directed air jet discharge ridge preheats the portion of the seam into which sealant is about to be dispensed while hot air from the air jet apertures in the front end of the nozzle melts the sealant.

A device for welding plastic materials includes a handheld, wand-type applicator that dispenses a focused stream of oxygen-free air for optimum fusion. The applicator comprises a heating coil that warms the dispensed air to a sufficient temperature to sufficiently meld the plastic materials. A weld air delivery system delivers the supply of oxygen-free air to the weld applicator. A separate coolant air delivery system includes a tank that collects a reserve supply of ambient air that is used to cool the heating coil when applicator is not actively welding plastic materials. The inclusion of separate delivery systems ensures that ambient air is used to cool applicator, whereas oxygen-free air is preserved for use in welding applications. For safety purposes, a switch deactivates the heating coil when the pressure of the reserve air in the tank falls beneath a predefined threshold that is considered necessary to adequately cool the applicator.
