Methods and systems are provided for enabling a vehicle for which a jet pump that functions to transfer fuel from a passive side to an active side of a saddle fuel tank is degraded, to reach a desired destination by the taking of mitigating action. The mitigating action includes conducting a driving maneuver in response to an indication that the jet pump is degraded, the driving maneuver conducted in order to transfer a desired amount of fuel from the passive side to the active side. In this way, a vehicle may reach a desired destination even under circumstances where the vehicle may otherwise be unable to reach the desired destination.

A reserve fuel tank retention and control (RTRC) module and a method of operating a vehicle including an engine and a main fuel tank containing a fuel, the method including mounting the RTRC module onto the vehicle; fluidly connecting the RTRC module to the engine and to the main fuel tank; actuating a valve of the RTRC module for a predetermined time to purge moisture in a fuel supply hose into the engine; and upon the main fuel tank becoming empty, actuating the valve to allow fuel from the reserve fuel tank to supply the engine.

An improved ball valve for use between dual fuel tanks having a non-circular outlet aperture leading to the fuel line and engine that can allow fuel to pass therethrough even when the ball contained within the valve rests in the opening of the outlet aperture.

Fuel tank system

A fuel tank system is provided. In the main tank of the system, the end of a communication pipe is located above the end of a fuel introduction pipe inserted into the main tank. The end of a first pressure relief pipe at which a first cut-off valve is provided is located above the end of the communication pipe. In the auxiliary tank, the end of the communication pipe is located above the end of the fuel introduction pipe inserted into the auxiliary tank. In the auxiliary tank, the end of a second pressure relief pipe at which a second cut-off valve is provided is located above an end of a scavenging pipe.
