Fuel system for a vehicle

A fuel system for a vehicle includes a fuel tank configured to provide fuel to an engine of the vehicle, a shutoff valve configured to selectively restrict a flow of the fuel along a flow path between the fuel tank and the engine, a temperature sensor configured to monitor a temperature of at least one of the engine of the vehicle or a temperature associated with a body area of the vehicle and provide a temperature signal, and a controller coupled to the temperature sensor and the shutoff valve. The controller is configured to control the shutoff valve to restrict the flow of the fuel in response to the temperature signal indicating a temperature in excess of a temperature threshold.

Tank assembly

A tank assembly includes a tank, at least one pressure relief valve, at least one heat transmission path, and at least one heat transmission element. The at least one pressure relief valve is configured to allow a pressure relief of the tank when a temperature threshold value at the pressure relief valve is exceeded. The heat transmission path and the pressure relief valve are connected via the at least one heat transmission element. The heat transmission element is changeable with respect to the heat transmission between the heat transmission path and the pressure relief valve.

Tank system

A tank system which prevents problems caused by electrostatic charging during a fueling sequence. The tank system includes a filling pipe, a filling hose which leads to a fuel tank, and a support sleeve, composed of an electrically conductive plastic material, in abutment with the filling pipe and the filling hose to thereby connect the filling pipe to the filling hose in an electrically conductive manner.

REFUSE VEHICLE HAVING TAILGATE-MOUNTED CNG TANKS

A refuse vehicle includes a chassis having an engine, a body assembly, a tailgate pivotally attached to the body assembly, a CNG fuel system having a CNG fuel tank coupled to the tailgate and moveable therewith, the engine configured to be powered by the CNG fuel system, at least one of one a non-structural conduit, a non-structural raceway, and a non-structural channel configured to contain at least one of wiring and a hydraulic line, and an impact mitigation system. The impact mitigation system is a passive system and includes a skeleton. The skeleton includes a plurality of structural frame members positioned to direct impact loads around the CNG fuel tank. The impact mitigation system provides a protected region within which the CNG fuel tank is disposed.

Method and system for forming a self-sealing volume

A method and system for forming a self-sealing volume includes an elastomeric composite structure. The structure includes layers of a cast polyurethane derived from a neat polyurethane monomer reaction mixture that does not substantially react at room temperature. The polyurethane monomer reaction layer includes a reaction product of an organic polyisocyanate and a reactive hydrogen-containing material reacted with a mixture of a monomeric polyol and polymeric polyols. The structure may further include one or more layers of a fabric that have been precoated with an aliphatic polyurethane, and one or more sealing layers. A fuel impermeable inner liner may be positioned in an inner region. The sealing layers may comprise at least one of partially vulcanized natural rubber (NR), polyisoprene (IR), styrene butadiene (SBR), or a blend of SBR with NR or IR. A dimensionally correct, self-sealing volume may be created by inflating the volume during its cure.

Vehicle energy storage compartment for improved crashworthiness

A compartment for storing an energy source in a vehicle having a protective outer structure and an inner structure. The protective outer structure is maintained in position relative to the vehicle during normal operation of the vehicle. The inner structure, which holds the energy source, is positioned in the outer structure. The inner structure is maintained in position relative to the outer structure and relative to the vehicle during normal operation of the vehicle. During an impact to the vehicle, the inner structure is configured to move independent of the outer structure.
