Self-sealing liquid bladders
A self-sealing liquid bladder having a plurality of layers including a liquid impermeable material layer that is compatible with a liquid held in the bladder and at least one sealing layer that is conformally arranged to span a surface area of the liquid impermeable material layer and that is separated from a liquid held in the bladder by the liquid impermeable layer, the sealing layer including a sealing means that, in response to a penetration of both the liquid impermeable material layer and the sealing layer, substantially seals the penetration.
METHOD & MATERIAL FOR ACCOMPLISHING IGNITION MITIGATION IN TANKS CONTAINING FLAMMABLE LIQUID
The use of flexible foam material to provide ignition mitigation in fuel tanks is described. In one example, a system for ignition mitigation includes a number of foam blocks, wherein each foam block is pre-cut from a flexible foam material. Each foam block can have a unique profile corresponding to inner surfaces of a fuel tank at a particular sector within a compartment of the fuel tank. In other aspects, one or more of the foam blocks can include one or more upper cutouts to provide clearance for upper stiffeners in the fuel tank, one or more lower cutouts to provide clearance for lower stiffeners in the fuel tank, and one or more arcuate cutouts to provide clearance for a tank fuel pump. The foam blocks can be arranged in a stack corresponding to a sequential installation at respective sectors within the compartment of the fuel tank.
Attachment device for attaching self-sealing plates to the external wall of a tank, assembly equipped with such an attachment device and associated mounting method
The invention relates to an attachment device for attaching (DA) self-sealing plates against an external wall of a tank, said attachment device comprising: a part (PC) shapeable to the shape of said self-sealing plates; a plurality of straps (S1, S2, S3); a first connection means (PBM, PLQ, PBC) between the straps (S1, S2, S3) and the shapeable part (PC); a second connection means (DBM, DLQ) between the straps (S1, S2, S3) and the shapeable part (PC).
Fuel containment autonomous self-sealing system
A seal-healing material that is used to form fuel tanks and other fuel containing items uses a pair of reagents disposed within multiple individual cells on either side of a polymer film with other polymer films forming the outer boundaries of each set of cells. The reagents, when mixed, chemically react to form a sealant. An elastomeric sheet is bound to each polymer film such that a fibrous material is disposed between each polymeric film and elastomeric film.
Liquid storage system
Disclosed is a liquid storage system comprising a tank for containing a liquid, said tank enclosing a liquid storage space, and a plurality of spaced apart protrusions extending from an internal surface of the tank into the liquid storage space. The protrusions are resistant to deformation and deflection caused by shockwaves within a liquid in the tank resulting from impact of a projectile with the tank, for example, the protrusions may be rigid and be polygonal prisms in shape.
Use of flaps in fuel bladders to seal punctures
A self-sealing bladder including a liquid impermeable material layer that is compatible with a liquid held in the bladder and a plurality of flexible sealing flaps extending inwardly from the interior surface of the liquid bladder wherein, in response to a hole formed in the bladder that establishes an unwanted flow of liquid from the bladder, at least one sealing flap responds to the unwanted flow of fluid by bending towards and at least partially covering the hole.
Liquid storage system
A liquid storage system comprising: a tank for containing a liquid, the tank enclosing a liquid storage space; multiple layers of a fabric material; and attachment means attaching the multiple layers of the fabric material to an internal surface of the tank. The attachment means may comprise a non-permeable envelope attached to the internal surface of the tank. The multiple layers of the fabric material may be enclosed in the envelope such that the multiple layers of a fabric are isolated from a fluid in the tank. The envelope may contain a fluid (e.g. air) in addition to the multiple layers of the fabric material.
Self-healing containment gels for aircraft fuel cells
A fuel cell containing fuel for an aircraft includes an innermost layer configured to contact the fuel, an outermost layer and a containment gel formed from isocyanate and polyol interposed between the innermost and outermost layers. The containment gel is configured to self-seal a ballistically formed hole therein, thereby reducing leakage of the fuel from the fuel cell.
Alternative Fuel System
An apparatus and a method are provided for an alternative fuel system, comprising a plurality of fuel tank assemblies interconnected with fuel lines; the plurality of fuel tank assemblies comprising a CNG fuel tank and a fuel tank shield; wherein a first and second fuel tank assembly is disposed immediately in front of a rear wheel assembly, and a third fuel tank assembly is disposed immediately behind the rear wheel assembly.
