In at least one embodiment, a vehicle system including a fuel cell stack and a least one controller. The fuel cell stack configured to provide energy for a vehicle. The at least one controller is programmed to control the fuel cell stack to enter into a zero gross power (ZGP) mode responsive to at least the vehicle exhibiting a negative torque demand for a period that is less than a maximum time duration. The at least one controller is further programmed to control the fuel cell stack to enter into a fuel cell shutdown mode responsive to the at least the vehicle exhibiting a negative torque demand for a period that is greater than maximum time duration.

FUEL CELL EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR FUEL CELL ELECTRIC VEHICLE

An exhaust duct of a fuel cell exhaust system includes a convolute duct, a resonator coupled to and in fluid communication with the convolute duct, a mid-duct coupled to and in fluid communication with the resonator, and a tail duct coupled to and in fluid communication with the mid-duct, the tail duct comprising a lower duct and an upper duct. The upper duct includes an incline duct, a transition duct, a decline duct, and a hydrogen sensor having a portion positioned within the transition duct. A first portion of an exhaust is diverted to the lower duct and a second portion of the exhaust is diverted to the upper duct and measured by the hydrogen sensor to determine hydrogen content of the exhaust.

FUEL CELL STACK DIAGNOSTICS USING CROWDSOURCING FOR CONNECTED FUEL CELL VEHICLE

A vehicle includes a fuel cell stack arranged to generate power for propulsion, an auxiliary fuel cell stack component, and a processor. The processor, responsive to a crowdsourced average value of an operating parameter of an auxiliary fuel cell stack component of other fuel cell vehicles being different, for a pre-defined power level, than an average value of a same operating parameter of the auxiliary fuel cell stack component by a pre-determined amount, purge the fuel cell stack of nitrogen.

Energy conversion system

An energy conversion system includes an energy converter, a cold generator, and a liquid water obtainer. The energy converter is configured to convert energy of a source from one form to another form and generate heat and water vapor. The cold generator is configured to generate cold using the heat generated by the energy converter. The liquid water obtainer is configured to condense the water vapor using the cold to obtain liquid water. Accordingly, the water vapor generated from the energy converter can be cooled efficiently. Therefore, efficiency in obtaining the liquid water can be improved compared with a case where the water vapor is cooled by open air.

Fuel cell module
