Battery state of charge target based on predicted regenerative energy

A hybrid vehicle includes an engine; a traction battery; and a controller or a vehicle control system having a controller. The controller is programmed to respond to a state of charge (SOC) of the traction battery. When the SOC is greater than a predicted SOC the controller is programmed to decrease a SOC threshold at which the engine is shut down to reduce the SOC. The SOC threshold is defined by a difference between a maximum SOC and an expected change in the SOC associated with predicted regenerative energy for a drive cycle.

APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING ROTARY ELECTRIC MACHINES

A filter processor of a control apparatus for a rotary electric machine filters target torque for the rotary electric machine to suppress a vibrational frequency component of a drivetrain using a filter having a frequency transfer characteristic. A controller performs drive control of the rotary electric machine according to the filtered target torque. A parameter calculator calculates, according to a running condition of the vehicle, a parameter associated with a request value for responsivity of output torque of the rotary electric machine with respect to the target torque. A variable setter variably sets the frequency transfer characteristic of the filter to decrease a degree of attenuation of the vibrational frequency component with an increase of the request value for the responsivity of the output torque.

Electric vehicle power management system

An apparatus comprising an interface, a memory and a processor. The interface may be configured to receive sensor data samples during operation of a vehicle. The memory may be configured to store the sensor data samples over a number of points in time. The processor may be configured to analyze the sensor data samples stored in the memory to detect a pattern. The processor may be configured to manage an application of brakes of the vehicle in response to the pattern.

Power split hybrid electric vehicle motor torque control using state estimation

A vehicle includes a traction motor coupled to a driveline. An engine and a generator are coupled to the driveline through a planetary gearset. A controller commands the traction motor torque based on a difference between a driver torque demand and an estimated powertrain torque. The estimated powertrain torque is based on an error between actual and estimated engine speed and an error between actual and estimated generator speed. The estimated powertrain torque may be further based on commanded or estimated engine torque and generator torque. The estimated powertrain torque may utilize a state estimator to calculate internal states based on the errors.

Electric vehicle

An electric vehicle may include at least one motor configured to transmit a drive output. A motor-generator unit may be configured to supply the at least one motor with electrical power. The motor-generator unit may include an internal combustion piston engine, which may include a crankshaft configured to rotation about an axis of rotation, and an electrical generator that may be drive connected to the piston engine. A control device may be in communication with the motor-generator unit. The control device may be configured to vary a generator torque of the electrical generator during a rotation cycle of the crankshaft in response to a crankshaft angle.

A power transmission device of a work vehicle includes a generator, a motor, and an energy storage unit. The energy storage unit stores electricity generated by the generator. A forward/backward travel switch operation device receives an instruction for forward or backward travel from an operator. A vehicle speed detection unit detects the speed of the vehicle. A control unit includes an energy management requirement determination unit. The energy management requirement determination unit determines, on the basis of the difference between a target electricity storage amount and a current electricity storage amount in the energy storage unit, the energy management required power required by the power transmission device for charging the energy storage unit. The energy management requirement determination unit increases the target electricity storage amount when a first travel direction according to the instruction and a second travel direction determined from the vehicle speed are different.

Mining machine and energy storage system for same

A mobile mining machine includes a plurality of traction elements, a plurality of motors, a power source in electrical communication with the plurality of motors, and an energy storage system in electrical communication with the plurality of motors and the power source. Each of the motors is coupled to an associated one of the plurality of traction elements. Each of the motors is driven by the associated traction element in a first mode, and drives the associated traction element in a second mode. The energy storage system includes a shaft, a rotor secured to the shaft, a stator extending around the rotor, and a flywheel coupled to the shaft for rotation therewith. In the first mode, rotation of the motors causes rotation of the flywheel to store kinetic energy. In the second mode, rotation of the rotor and the flywheel discharges kinetic energy to drive the motors.

Methods and systems for engine cranking

Systems and methods for improving operation of a hybrid vehicle are presented. In one example, an engine may be started in one of two ways depending on operating conditions. In particular, the engine may be started via a lower power output electric machine or a higher power output electric machine.
