Lower seat assembly for a vehicle seat, including a compressible cushion, with an upper face for supporting a seat occupant, and a lower face, such that the cushion is compressed when a load is applied on the upper face by an occupant. The lower seat assembly further includes a cushion supporting element, disposed below the cushion for supporting the cushion, and at least one sensing device comprising a proximity sensor, configured to sense a distance to a proximity sensor target facing the sensor. Either the sensor or the target is fixed to the lower face of the cushion, and the other one is fixed to the cushion supporting element. The lower face bends when the cushion is compressed and generates a relative movement between the sensor and the target, and the sensing device is configured to derive a weight class of an occupant from the distance between the sensor and the target.

A seat includes a cushion comprising a foam body and a trim cover disposed thereon, the trim cover having a forward portion at a front of the cushion and at least one elastic band attached to the forward portion; and a movable cushion length adjuster having an extended position and a retracted position, the movable length adjuster comprising a body with an occupant surface on a first side, and features on a second side, opposite to the first side. The at least one elastic band is routed on the features, and in the retracted position, the movable cushion length adjuster at least partially covers a portion of the cushion, and in the extended position, the length adjuster is spaced apart from the portion such that the at least one elastic band tensions the trim cover by pulling on the forward portion.
Multi-zone seat suspension
A suspension member for a seat assembly includes a plurality of zones which define spatially varying properties of the suspension member. Each of the zones produces a response to an occupant load imposed on the seat assembly by a seated occupant, where the response includes one or more of a stiffness response, an energy dissipation response, and a thermal response. The response produced by each zone is different from the response produced from any other of the zones. The suspension member can be made of a homogenous material or made of a combination of materials such that each zone is made of a different material. The suspension member can include a textile material formed by weaving, knitting or crocheting. At least one zone of the suspension member can include one or more apertures.

A function-adapted three-dimensional foam structure (2) for a vehicle seat (4) has first foam structure planes (6) to ensure a constant compressive strength of the foam structure (2) in two spatial directions x, y, second foam structure planes (8) to ensure a length variance of the foam structure (2) in a spatial direction z, that is perpendicular to the spatial directions x and y. The first foam structure planes (6) and the second foam structure planes (8) are formed and distributed within the foam structure (2) such that the compressive strength of the foam structure (2) is constant in the spatial directions x, y independent of the length-wise expansion of the foam structure (2) in the spatial direction z.

A former extends outwardly from the second side of the foam cushion to a distal end spaced apart from the foam cushion. The former cooperates with the second side of the foam cushion to define an open channel. The open channel is sized to receive a seam of a trim cover assembly. The former defines a first side wall of the open channel, and the second side of the foam cushion defines a second side wall of the open channel. The first side wall defined by the former faces away from the second side of the foam cushion.
