Airbag apparatus
An airbag apparatus to be applied to a vehicle includes an airbag configured to be deployed forward of a vehicle body front of the vehicle, a collision determiner configured to establish a pre-crash determination in a case where a collision probability with a human body or an object other than a human body is equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold, and an airbag deployment controller configured to deploy the airbag in response to the pre-crash determination. The airbag includes a slit portion formed by recessing a front surface rearward of the vehicle, and branches divided by the slit portion. The airbag apparatus further includes a coupling member configured to couple the branches to each other, and a coupling member disabling unit configured to break coupling of the branches by the coupling member in a case where a collision with the human body is predicted.
Bumper design using shear thickening fluids
A variable shear control energy absorption system for a vehicle is provided. The system may include a vehicle frame component and a primary deformable impact absorber located adjacent the vehicle frame component. The vehicle frame component may be a bumper reinforcement member. The system may include a plurality of secondary deformable impact chambers located within the primary deformable impact absorber, each secondary deformable impact chamber including a shear thickening fluid that exhibits an increasing or decreasing viscosity responsive to an impact force. At least one elastic relief chamber is provided in fluid communication with the plurality of secondary deformable impact chambers. The elastic relief chamber is configured to temporarily accept the shear thickening fluid from the plurality of secondary deformable impact chambers during low force impacts, and to redirect the shear thickening fluid back to the secondary deformable impact chambers after the low impact force recedes.
Bumper design using shear thickening fluids
A variable shear control energy absorption system for a vehicle is provided. Bumper arrangement
The invention relates to a bumper arrangement with a crossmember and two crashboxes which are in each case connectable on one side to the crossmember on an outer region thereof and are arrangeable on the other side on a vehicle-side longitudinal member. It is distinguished in that the crossmember has a hollow chamber profile with a hollow chamber which is round at least in sections in cross section, which hollow chamber profile is arranged in a crossmember longitudinal axis running perpendicularly to the vehicle center longitudinal axis.
Bumper arrangement
The invention relates to a bumper arrangement with a crossmember and two crashboxes which are in each case connectable on one side to the crossmember on an outer region thereof and are arrangeable on the other side on a vehicle-side longitudinal member. It is distinguished in that the crossmember has a hollow chamber profile with a hollow chamber which is round at least in sections in cross section, which hollow chamber profile is arranged in a crossmember longitudinal axis running perpendicularly to the vehicle center longitudinal axis.
Water collection system for a pickup truck
A pickup truck including a truck bed, a truck box, a storage tank, and a water filtration system is provided. The truck box is mounted to the truck bed and defines a cavity. The storage tank has a valve arranged to control release of liquid received within the cavity into the storage tank. The water filtration system is disposed between, and in fluid communication with, the cavity and storage tank. Walls of the storage tank may be defined by a bumper. The water filtration system may include a strainer at a pass-through open to the cavity and a filter downstream of the pass-through. An air relief valve may be open to the storage tank. The storage tank may be mounted at a location on the truck adjacent a rear bumper of the truck.
Water collection system for a pickup truck
A pickup truck including a truck bed, a truck box, a storage tank, and a water filtration system is provided. The truck box is mounted to the truck bed and defines a cavity. The storage tank has a valve arranged to control release of liquid received within the cavity into the storage tank. The water filtration system is disposed between, and in fluid communication with, the cavity and storage tank. Walls of the storage tank may be defined by a bumper. The water filtration system may include a strainer at a pass-through open to the cavity and a filter downstream of the pass-through. An air relief valve may be open to the storage tank. The storage tank may be mounted at a location on the truck adjacent a rear bumper of the truck.
SHOCK ABSORPTION DEVICE
A shock absorption device includes an inner cylinder assembly threadably engaged within an outer cylinder assembly. The outer cylinder assembly includes a cap shaped member, at least one protruding member, and at least one first spring member. The inner cylinder assembly includes at least one compressive member, at least one second spring member, and at least one movable piston member. When an external impact force is applied to the cap shaped body member, the first threaded portion of the outer cylinder assembly jumps over the second threaded portion of the inner cylinder assembly as provided by elastic movement of the resilient ring member about the cap shaped body member. The thread jumping results in the first spring member compressing and the protruding member pushing the piston member which pushes and compresses the second spring member and the compressive member providing a reactive force to absorb the external impact force.
SHOCK ABSORPTION DEVICE
A shock absorption device includes an inner cylinder assembly threadably engaged within an outer cylinder assembly. The outer cylinder assembly includes a cap shaped member, at least one protruding member, and at least one first spring member. The inner cylinder assembly includes at least one compressive member, at least one second spring member, and at least one movable piston member. When an external impact force is applied to the cap shaped body member, the first threaded portion of the outer cylinder assembly jumps over the second threaded portion of the inner cylinder assembly as provided by elastic movement of the resilient ring member about the cap shaped body member. The thread jumping results in the first spring member compressing and the protruding member pushing the piston member which pushes and compresses the second spring member and the compressive member providing a reactive force to absorb the external impact force.
INFLATABLE PROTECTIVE GUARD FOR A HYBRID VEHICLE BATTERY
A rear collision guard for a vehicle having a battery disposed on an underbody wall that is supported by longitudinal rails. The guard comprises a pair of sidewalls that attach to the longitudinal rails through the underbody wall and extend longitudinally on right and left lateral sides of the battery. A channel is attached to a back-end of each of the sidewalls and is spaced behind the battery. An airbag is attached to a rearwardly facing surface of the channel and is operatively connected to an inflation system that inflates the airbag to expand rearwardly in a rear end collision.
