11858456 · 2024-01-02 · ·

A system for providing occupant restraint includes a seatbelt, a tensioning mechanism, and a locking mechanism. The seatbelt may include an upper portion and a lower portion, or just a single span. The tensioning mechanism is configured to remove slack in one or more portions of the seatbelt in response to an event such as an impact event. The locking mechanism is configured to lock an end of the seatbelt after the tensioning mechanism removes the slack, to prevent the seatbelt from extending. A connector may be included that defines an upper portion of the seatbelt and a lower portion of the seatbelt. The tensioning mechanism may include a load limiter to lessen a force transmitted to the seatbelt during tensioning. The load limiter may include an energy absorption element. The tensioning mechanism and the locking mechanism may be coupled to either span.

Retractor pretensioner with piston rest area

The pipe (1) has a receiving section (5) with a first inner diameter (2), in which the piston (3) in its initial state is arranged with an initial-state outer diameter (8). The pipe (1) has a guide section (6) which adjoins the receiving section (5) and which has a second inner diameter (7). The second inner diameter (7) is smaller than the first inner diameter (2) and smaller than the initial-state outer diameter (8) of the piston (3).

Seatbelt assembly

An assembly includes a base and a seatbelt anchor. The seatbelt anchor has a first end defining a circular hole pivotally supported by the base and a second end fixed in position relative to the first end. The assembly includes a buckle fixed in position relative to the second end. The assembly includes a pyrotechnic actuator secured to the base. The assembly includes a connector extending from the pyrotechnic actuator to the seatbelt anchor.

Seatbelt pretensioner shield and heat energy dissipator

A lap belt pretensioner for a lap belt configured to secure an occupant of a vehicle seat includes a pyrotechnic device. The pyrotechnic device is configured to generate a force directed to tension the lap belt around the occupant and emit an exhaust gas including particulates at high pressure and high temperature as a byproduct of the generated force. The lap belt pretensioner also includes a housing configured to retain the pyrotechnic device and defining an exhaust passage configured to expel the exhaust gas from the lap belt pretensioner. The lap belt pretensioner additionally includes a shield arranged over the exhaust passage and configured to collect and/or deflect the emitted particulates and dissipate heat energy thereof. A vehicle having the vehicle seat mounted to the vehicle structure and employing the seatbelt system is also provided.

FORCE-LIMITING DEVICE AND SEAT BELT SYSTEM

A force-limiting device, especially for a seat belt system (10) in a vehicle, has a force transducer (20) interacting with webbing (14) for which a normal webbing path is provided. The force transducer (20) includes a webbing track (30) that in a non-force-limiting position extends in parallel to the normal webbing path and in a force-limiting position extends inclined relative to the normal webbing path so that the force transducer (20) in the force-limiting position sets a predetermined extension force (F) required to move the webbing (14) vis--vis the force transducer (20) in a direction of belt extension (R).

Seat belt pretensioner system

A seat belt system for restraining an occupant of a vehicle. The system includes a webbing and a pretensioner. A cable connects the webbing to the pretensioner. The pretensioner includes a housing, a gas generator, and an outer cylinder connected to the housing. A gas generator provides gases into a pressure chamber in the outer cylinder to drive a piston, an inner cylinder and the cable in a pretensioning direction. A sealing ring is located between the outer cylinder and inner cylinder. The sealing ring is configured to provide a seal to prevent the gases provided by the gas generator from passing. A deflector shield is located between the outer cylinder and the inner cylinder and closer to the pressure chamber than the sealing ring, wherein the deflector shield is configured to deflect the gases away from the sealing ring.

OCCUPANT PROTECTION DEVICE

An occupant protection device including a seat belt including a shoulder belt and a lap belt, a locking tongue that is detachably joined to a buckle, that allows the seat belt to pass therethrough, and that is capable of switching between an unlock state in which the seat belt is allowed to move with the locking tongue being between the shoulder belt and the lap belt and a lock state in which movement thereof is restricted, a shoulder-belt puller that is capable of pulling the shoulder belt to apply a tensile force thereto, a side-collision detector that detects a side collision or a precursor thereof, and a control unit that changes a state of the locking tongue into the lock state and causes the shoulder-belt puller to pull the shoulder belt when the side-collision detector detects the side collision that occurs opposite an occupant or the precursor thereof.
