Belt pretensioner
A belt pretensioner has a base member. The base member has an axial cavity within. An actuating member is hollow and fits within the axial cavity of the base member. The hollow actuating member telescopically slides within the axial cavity and an initiator fits within the hollow portion of the actuating member. In a critical situation such as a crash, the initiator is triggered and the expanding gasses move the actuating member. The actuating member is connected to seat belt webbing and this movement provides the necessary pretensioning of the seatbelt. In some embodiments, a locking means is used to prevent the belt pretensioner from loosening once triggered. One embodiment is provided for use with a child seat. A transversely mounted belt pretensioner embedment is also disclosed.

An apparatus for tensioning an occupant restraint harness coupled to an occupant seat mountable in a motor vehicle, wherein the occupant restraint harness includes first and second lap webs securable about an occupant of the seat, may include a web tensioning device configured to be attached to a rear side of the occupant seat, the web tensioning device having an actuated state and an unactuated state, and a mechanical movement converter configured to be attached to the rear side of the occupant seat and having an input operatively coupled to the web tensioning device, a first output coupled to the first lap web and a second output coupled to the second lap web, the mechanical movement converter responsive to a transition of the web tensioning device from the unactuated state to the actuated state to simultaneously apply tension to the first and second lap webs.

Seat belt retractor and seat belt device
Provided are a seat belt retractor and a seat belt device with which it is possible to improve energy absorption characteristics and a restraining property. The seat belt retractor includes a spool that performs winding of a webbing for restraining an occupant, a shaft inserted through an axial center of the spool, and a locking base connected to the shaft and capable of switching between a rotating state and a non-rotating state. The seat belt retractor further includes a load adjustment member disposed between the shaft and the locking base and that blocks or reduces load transmission in a case where a load equal to or greater than a threshold is applied to the shaft, and an energy absorption device disposed between the spool and the locking base and capable of changing an energy absorption amount according to a relative rotation speed between the spool and the locking base. The energy absorption device is connected in parallel with the load adjustment member.

The invention relates to a hybrid inflator (10) includes at least one combustion chamber (15) in which propellant charge is arranged and which has a discharge end (20), the propellant charge being formed of at least one propellant element (26), at least one igniting unit (12) by which the propellant charge can be ignited. The hybrid inflator (10) also includes at least one bursting element (14, 14, 14) which in the inactivated state of the hybrid inflator (10) delimits the combustion chamber (15) against a gas supply chamber (16) at the discharge end (20). The bursting element (14, 14, 14) and a restraint element (18, 18, 18) maintain the propellant charge in its position and/or the bursting element (14, 14, 14) and the propellant charge delimit a shock gas volume (SGV), wherein in the activated state of the hybrid inflator (10) the shock gas volume (SGV) acts on the bursting element (14, 14, 14) like a gas pressure spring.

A seat assembly includes a seatback, an elongated member, a pyrotechnic device, and a wire. The seat assembly may be in a vehicle. The elongated member is rotatably supported by the seatback. The pyrotechnic device is fixed relative to the seatback. The wire is connected to the elongated member and deployably attached to the pyrotechnic device.

A belt tensioner (10) for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises a tube (12) containing gas in the trigger case and an igniter unit (14) arranged in the tube (12) which igniter unit is inserted in an open end face (16) of the tube (12) and includes a base (18) and a cap (20) fastened to the base (18) for accommodating a propelling charge, wherein the cap (20) is arranged at least pertly inside the tube. The igniter unit (14) is welded to the tube (12).
