A second distance is determined between a target vehicle and the host vehicle. A time to reach is predicted between the target vehicle and the remote vehicle based on the first distance and the second distance. A brake of the host vehicle is pre-charged when the predicted time to reach is below a time threshold. Pre-charging of the brake of the host vehicle is suppressed when the predicted time to reach is above the time threshold.

The controller is configured to receive the speed sensor signal, receive the payload sensor signal, receive the inclination sensor signal, determine a required retardation force for the industrial vehicle based on the payload sensor signal and the inclination sensor signal, determine an available retardation force for the industrial vehicle based on the speed sensor signal, and generate an output indicating the required retardation force for the industrial vehicle relative to the available retardation force for the industrial vehicle.

Weight profile determination system

A weight profile determination system includes a sensor and a controller. The sensor is disposed along a route and configured to generate a plurality of force measurements of a vehicle system moving on the route relative to the sensor. The force measurements are obtained at different times and correspond to different locations along a length of the vehicle system. The controller is configured to determine a weight profile for the vehicle system based on the force measurements generated by the sensor. The weight profile represents a distribution of weight along the length of the vehicle system. The controller is configured to communicate the weight profile to one or more of the vehicle system or an offboard device for controlling movement of the vehicle system based on the weight profile.

A system for displaying contextually-sensitive braking information on a surface of a vehicle is presented. The system may include a transceiver, one or more memories, an electronic display disposed on the surface, and one or more processors. The one or more processors may be configured to detect a braking event of the vehicle, wherein the braking event has an associated braking force. The one or more processors may compare the braking force to a predetermined threshold braking force to determine whether the braking force exceeds the threshold braking force. The one or more processors may further cause the electronic display to display a braking indication having an intensity that is proportional to the braking force, wherein the braking indication may include a braking rationale corresponding to the braking event in response to determining that the braking force exceeds the threshold braking force.

The RF transceiver may, for example, operate in a 2.4 GHz frequency band. In some implementations, the RF transceiver may be used to detect entry of the shopping cart into a checkout area of the store, and the VLF receiver may be used to detect that the shopping cart is exiting the store. The controller may activate the brake if the shopping cart attempts to exit the store without first passing through a checkout area.
