Disclosed is a method for operating an automated parking brake for a motor vehicle comprising at least one braking mechanism with a brake piston. In said method, the parking brake moves the brake piston by means of an actuator between an idle position, in which the brake piston applies no braking moment, and a braking position, in which the brake piston applies a braking moment, in relation to a brake disk, and during a disengagement process of the parking brake, a reference point is determined in which the brake piston is located in a position in which it applies substantially no braking moment and which is between its idle position and its braking position. The method according to the disclosure is characterized in that the reference point is estimated taking into account an extrapolation of a variable describing the disengagement process.

Friction brake system for a vehicle

A friction brake system comprises a first gear unit having a first member and a second member, the first gear unit is configured for converting a rotary motion of the first member into a braking motion of the second member, the first member is configured such that the rotary motion may be driven by an electric motor, the brake system further comprises a second gear unit having a spindle and nut for converting a rotary motion into a linear motion for pad wear compensation, the spindle is connectable to a brake pad, the second member of the first gear unit and the nut of the second gear unit are or may be mechanically coupled such that, during the braking motion, the second member of the first gear unit pushes against the nut of the second gear unit to press the brake pad against a friction surface.

ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEM

An electric brake system includes at least a pair of braking apparatuses each configured to advance a piston for pressing a frictional member against a rotational member rotatable together with a wheel and configured to press the frictional member against the rotational member with use of an electric mechanism according to a braking request signal and hold a pressing force of the frictional member. The electric brake system further includes a control apparatus configured to control the electric mechanism of each of the brake apparatuses and diagnose the failed state in which an abnormality has occurred in each of the brake apparatuses according to the braking request signal. The control apparatus is configured to, when any one of the brake apparatuses is diagnosed as being in the failed state, prohibit the electric mechanism of the one of the brake apparatuses from operating while the vehicle is running.

Redundant power supply for brake system

A local control unit for a brake system is described. The control unit serves to actuate an electromechanical brake of the brake system of a wheel and according to one exemplary embodiment has a first connection for a main power supply and a second connection for a generator which is coupled to the wheel and which provides a standby power supply for the control unit.

VEHICLE CONTROLLER

A vehicle controller applies a braking force to wheels using a hydraulic braking force generating mechanism and sets a vehicle driving torque, which is generated by an engine, to a second torque which is smaller than a first torque in a normal state, when a switch is switched to an ON state in a state in which a vehicle is traveling and an accelerator is turned on. Then vehicle stops, the vehicle controller implements an EPB mechanical operating state using a mechanical parking brake mechanism. When the switch is switched to an OFF sate, the vehicle controller maintains the EPB mechanical operating state until an accelerator pedal operating level reaches “0,” and maintains the vehicle driving torque at the second torque. Then the accelerator pedal operating level reaches “0”, the EPB mechanical operating state is released and the vehicle driving torque is returned to the first torque.

Brake temperature detection device and electric parking brake control device

A brake temperature detection device is configured detect brake temperature more accurately. In a situation in which the temperature in the vicinity of the brake has risen above the atmospheric temperature, indicated by a value read off of the detection signal of the temperature sensor, for example when traveling in congested traffic, a value to correct atmospheric temperature is determined, and atmospheric temperature is corrected on the basis of that atmospheric temperature correction value. Subsequently, brake temperature is calculated on the basis of the corrected air temperature. As a result of this configuration, it is possible to have the calculated brake temperature approach the actual brake temperature. This makes it possible to detect brake temperature more accurately.
