Pneumatic trailer brake circuit with breakaway detection and method thereof

A method of detecting a leak in an air trailer brake circuit of a trailer includes providing a controller, a base valve, a first sensor, a second sensor, a leak control valve having a solenoid, a pneumatic fluid supply, a first brake output, and a second brake output. The method further includes supplying a first pressure to an inlet of the base valve and outputting a second pressure from an outlet of the base valve. The first pressure is detected with the first sensor and the second pressure is detected with the second sensor. The method also includes communicating the detected first pressure and the second pressure to the controller, and comparing a difference between first pressure and the second pressure to a threshold. A leak is detected in the air trailer brake circuit if the difference satisfies the threshold.

An electronically controllable pneumatic braking system for a vehicle includes a first control unit for a primary system and a second control unit for a first fallback level, and a monostable fail-safety valve unit which pneumatically connects a main port, which provides a first pressure, and a failure brake port. The fail-safety valve unit is connected to both control units and in a fault situation, power failure and/or diagnostic situation of the control units, provides the failure brake pressure for triggering a failure braking operation. The failure brake port is connected to the primary system and/or to the first fallback level upstream of a functional pneumatic unit of the primary system and/or the first fallback level, in such a way that both front axle service brake actuators and rear axle service brake actuators have a brake pressure applied thereto in order to implement the failure braking operation.

Trailer braking system

A brake system for a trailer has first and second pneumatic circuits for supplying air pressure to the wheel ends on the trailer. The air pressure to brake devices at the wheel ends is controllable via a first brake ECU. First and second pressure control valves control pressure from the pneumatic circuits to the respective wheel ends. The system further has a second ECU adapted to electrically control the actuation of the pressure control valves.

BRAKE MODULE FOR A HYDRAULICALLY BRAKED TRACTOR VEHICLE WHICH CAN BE COUPLED TO A PNEUMATICALLY BRAKED TRAILER VEHICLE

A brake module for a hydraulically braked tractor coupled to a pneumatically braked trailer has a trailer control valve connected via hydraulic control inlet to a hydraulic pressure line leaving a master brake cylinder, and via pneumatic inlet to a compressed air reservoir. Hydraulic control pressure determines pneumatic output pressure level at a trailer control valve pneumatic outlet. The brake module has a break-off prevention module which, if the control line leaks or separates from the trailer control valve relative to the trailer brake system, closes a supply pressure coupling head supply line and causes trailer brake system venting. The break-off prevention module has a pneumatic supply pressure inlet and a pneumatic tear-off control pressure inlet connected to the air reservoir independently of trailer control valve pressure inlets. Supply pressure inlet supply pressure passes through the break-off prevention module and feeds to a trailer control valve pneumatic supply pressure inlet
