A control valve for applying a spring-loaded brake pressure to spring-loaded parts of a rear-axle wheel brake is pneumatically activated as a function of a parking-brake braking demand and a service-brake braking demand. A first control chamber is connected via a first control piston to a control arrangement in the control valve. During an adjustment of the first control chamber via the service-brake control pressure, the spring-loaded brake pressure at the working output is a function of the service-brake control pressure or of the parking-brake control pressure. The first control piston is connected to a third control chamber, wherein the pressure in the first control chamber acts on the first control piston in one direction, and the pressure in the third control chamber acts on the first control piston in the opposite direction. The first control chamber is selectively connectable to the third control chamber via a switchable bypass valve.

A vehicle spring brake having a parking brake housing that defines a parking brake chamber and a service brake housing that defines a service brake chamber. A flexible membrane separates the parking brake chamber from the service brake chamber and flexes into and out of the service brake chamber based upon a pressure differential between an air pressure in the parking brake chamber and an air pressure in the service brake chamber. A pushrod extends out of the service brake housing when the flexible membrane flexes into the service brake chamber and retracts into the service brake housing when the flexible membrane flexes back out of the service brake chamber. A control valve controls the pressure differential to thereby control movement of the flexible membrane and the pushrod.

HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE AND METHOD FOR OPERATING AND TESTING SAME

A hydraulic brake system for a motor vehicle with redundant braking pressure regulation is presented. The brake system comprises a first functional unit having at least one first electrical braking pressure generator which is designed to generate a braking pressure at each of a plurality of wheel brakes, and further having a valve assembly per wheel brake. The valve assembly can be actuated for braking pressure regulation at the corresponding wheel brake in order to couple a first wheel brake associated with the valve assembly either to the first braking pressure generator or to an unpressurized reservoir for hydraulic fluid. The brake system also comprises a second functional unit having at least one second electrical braking pressure generator which is designed to generate a braking pressure at each of a subset of the wheel brakes. The output of the second braking pressure generator is arranged downstream, as seen from the first braking pressure generator, of the valve assembly associated with the corresponding wheel brake. The second functional unit is also designed to perform braking pressure regulation at each wheel brake of the subset redundantly in relation to the first functional unit.
