Systems and methods for monitoring a battery pack including multiple cells are provided. The battery management system further comprises a control strategy for implementing a balancing algorithm. A balancing strategy comprises a determination of battery cells to be balanced, and a calculated balancing current.

Wheel assembles using integrated motors and speed reducers for electric vehicles are disclosed for providing improved structural efficiency. A wheel assembly may include a motor for providing power to a wheel, a leading or trailing type or similar suspension link, a caliper mounted to the suspension link and configured to engage a friction brake rotor on the wheel, and a synchronous belt mounted off-axis for implementing speed reducing. In certain embodiments, the respective components of the wheel assembly are nested to fit into a minimal volume. In other embodiments, the wheel assembly includes a motor that is not nested and that is configured to supply power to the wheel via a belt and pulley system.

The motor controller determines whether to select regenerative braking mode based at least in part on the position of the throttle control. The motor controller supplies power from the battery pack to the motor in accordance with the throttle control when regenerative braking mode is not selected. The motor controller provides power from the motor to the battery pack when regenerative braking is selected. The battery pack and the motor controller are contained within the housing.

The structure is such as to afford high flexibility of production, and presents at the same time considerable safety characteristics, thanks to a high capacity of absorption of impact energy. In one embodiment designed for transport of goods, the motor vehicle is equipped with a transporting body having a hollow-walled body made of plastic material, filled with foamed plastic material, preferably obtained with the rotational-moulding technique.
