Railroad car and end door assembly therefor

A gondola car has a door and an associated door frame the end. The door hangs hingedly from the header of the frame. The header runs across the top of the door opening and is connected to the top chords at either side. The door posts are positioned inside the side sheets and tie into the header at each upper corner. The side sheets lap onto the door posts to allow longitudinal adjustment of the side assemblies and the door frame relative to each other, at assembly. The side posts are connected to the header with a tie plate that is bolted to both members. The car may also have a tarp dome at each end. The tarp dome has non-welded connections that have play to permit the tarp dome to accommodate movement of the top chords.

RAILROAD HOPPER CAR BODY FITTINGS

A railroad hopper car body includes a set of hopper and hopper discharges. Egress of lading from the discharges is governed by movable doors that swing between a closed position and an open position. The motion is driven by a mechanical transmission that is itself driven by an actuator. Each pair of doors is driven by a single actuator. The actuator is mounted to act through the center sill. A portion, or substantially all, of the actuator may be mounted in a predominantly squat, vertical orientation within the center sill. In alternate embodiments, the transmission output may be bifurcated. The center sill bottom flange may be narrower adjacent to the doors. The mechanism may have a secondary lock. The mechanism may have an auxiliary manual release.

According to some embodiments, a compression strut comprises a first strut body comprising a threaded end and a hollow end, and a second strut body comprising a threaded end and a shaped end. The hollow end of the first strut body is slidably coupled to the shaped end of the second strut body. A spring is disposed between the first strut body and the second strut body configured to resist longitudinal compression of the compression strut. The first strut body is rotationally coupled to the second strut body so that rotation of the first strut body also rotates the second strut body and rotation of the second strut body also rotates the first strut body. A first ball end is threaded to the first strut body and a second ball end is threaded to the second strut body.

A RAILWAY WAGON

The present invention provides a railway wagon (100) comprising: a pair of bogies (106a, 106b), each bogie having wheels (108) configured in use to run on rails; a frame (104) supported by the pair of bogies (106a, 106b); and a bin (102) supported by the frame (104). The bin (102) has: a base portion (110) defining at least one catchment area (124); a substantially upright first end wall (114a); a substantially upright second end wall (114b) two longitudinal sidewalls (116a, 116b) extending between the first end wall (114a) and the second end wall (114b); an interior volume (118) for carrying product therein, the interior volume (118) being at least substantially defined by the first end wall (114a), the second end wall (114b), the two longitudinal sidewalls (116a, 166b), and the base portion (110); and an opening (120) opposite the base portion (110). The bin (102) is formed from at least two sections (103a, 103b) joined together, each section (103a, 103b) being formed at least substantially of composite materials and moulded as a single structure.
