SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INDEXING VEHICLES OF A VEHICLE SYSTEM
A control system having a controller is configured to operate a vehicle indexing system that moves one or more vehicles in a vehicle system into a position to one or more of unload cargo off of the one or more vehicles or load the cargo onto the one or more vehicles. The controller is configured to determine a power setting of the vehicle indexing system that is used by the vehicle indexing system to move the one or more vehicles in the vehicle system into the position. The controller also is configured to determine a vehicle power setting for the vehicle system based on the power setting of the vehicle indexing system for controlling the vehicle system to provide additional tractive effort to the vehicle indexing system to move the one or more vehicles into the position.

Communication device for rail vehicle, rail vehicle equipped with said device
This communication device for rail vehicle is of the type comprising a wireless communication stage to communicate with a control beacon on at least one communication spectrum band of a spectral range sub-divided into several predetermined channels.
Locomotive-to-wayside device communication system and method and wayside device therefor
A locomotive-to-wayside device communication system for a train having a locomotive travelling in a track network having wayside devices associated therewith. The system includes: an on-board communication device associated with the locomotive for transmitting and receiving data; and a wayside communication device associated with a wayside device, wherein the wayside communication device is programmed or configured to transmit data at or over (a) at least one power level, (b) at least one reporting interval, (c) at least one frequency, (d) at least one communication protocol, or any combination thereof. A wayside communication device and a locomotive-to-wayside device communication method are also disclosed.
Devices, systems, and methods related to tracking location of operator control units for locomotives
According to various aspects, exemplary embodiments are disclosed of devices, systems, and methods related to tracking location of operator control units for locomotives. In an exemplary embodiment, an operator control unit includes a user interface configured to receive one or more commands from an operator for controlling a locomotive. The operator control unit also includes a global positioning system (GPS) receiver configured to receive location information of the operator control unit, and a wireless communication device. The wireless communication device is configured to transmit command data corresponding to the one or more commands and location data corresponding to the location information to a machine control unit on the locomotive.
Methods and systems of determining end of train location and clearance of trackside points of interest
Methods and systems that utilize radio frequency identification (RFID) tags mounted at trackside points of interest (POI) together with an RFID tag reader mounted on an end of train (EOT) car. The RFID tag reader and the RFID tags work together to provide information that can be used in a number of ways including, but not limited to, determining train integrity, determining a geographical location of the EOT car, and determine that the EOT car has cleared the trackside POI along the track.
Systems and Methods for Using a Railroad Rail as Radiating Element for Transmitting Wireless Communications Signals
A railroad communication system includes a radio transmitter for generating radio communications signals and a length of railroad rail coupled to the radio transmitter. The length of rail is disposed on a set of nonconductive railroad ties to form a transmission line for radiating the radio communications signals to a radio receiver in a vicinity of the length of railroad rail.
System and method for managing the movement of a vehicle along a transport network
A system and a related method are for managing the movement of a vehicle travelling along a transport network and powered by a power line which is segmented into a plurality of power feeding segments. At least one power feeding controller is configured at least to control switching ON/OFF a predetermined number of power feeding segments. An on-board control system is installed on board of said vehicle. At least one trackside control system is operatively connected to the on-board control system and the at least one power feeding controller.
Automated railroad safety systems
An exemplary method includes electronically determining that movement of a rolling stock should be prevented based on a failure condition of the rolling stock. And if it is electronically determined that movement of the rolling stock should be prevented based on the failure condition of the rolling stock, the method further includes preventing movement of the rolling stock including preventing the rolling stock from initiating a movement from a stationary position along a track within a work area defined around the rolling stock by: preventing brakes of the rolling stock from being released via one or more pneumatic components; and/or preventing the rolling stock from receiving or accepting a movement command.
DIGITAL CONTEXT-AWARE DATA COLLECTION
Examples relate to digital context aware (DCA) data collection. In some examples, a DCA start location component is positioned at a first location along a travel route, and a DCA end location component is positioned at a second location along the travel route. In response to using a wireless interface to detect the DCA start location component, data collection of measurements by a sensor are initiated. In response to using the wireless interface to detect the DCA end location component, the data collection by the sensor is halted.
