A combined motor and gearbox assembly for an electric power steering system comprising an electric motor, a gearbox which includes a gearset that is connected on an input part to a rotor of the motor and in use is connected on an output part at least indirectly to a steering column shaft to transfer torque from the motor rotor to the steering column shaft, a motor drive circuit, a gearbox housing which in use accommodates the gearset of the gearbox, the electric motor including a motor housing, and a baseplate which connects an end face of the gearbox housing to an end face of the gearbox housing and which supports the drive circuit. At least one bolt having a stem passes through a central hole in a tubular rivet that secures the motor housing to the baseplate, the bolt securing the baseplate to the gearbox housing.

Size reduction of electric drive device in radial direction can be achieved. Since heat radiates to housing of electric motor unit through heat radiation base body, heat from board can radiate efficiently to the outside.

The winding of the motor includes a winding end portion configured to receive a current supplied thereto. The control unit includes: a current supply circuit, which includes a supply terminal, and is configured to supply the current to the winding end portion; an extension member connected to the supply terminal; and a first connection portion at which the extension member and the winding end portion are connected to each other. The first connection portion is arranged on a radially outer side of the motor with respect to the current supply circuit.

A motor includes a rotor including an axially extending shaft, a stator, a housing, a heat sink disposed axially above the stator, a board fixed axially above the heat sink, a connector disposed radially outside the housing, and a connector pin accommodated in the connector. The heat sink includes a main body, and a protrusion which is continuous with the main body, the protrusion extending radially outward of the housing. The connector, the protrusion, and the board overlap in this order when viewed from axially below. The connector pin is positioned radially outside the protrusion.

The inter-board connector connects the second circuit board disposed on the anti-load side of the second housing to the first circuit board disposed on the load side of the second housing. The inter-board connector is disposed in the first through hole.
