LIVEWELL FOR FISHING BOATS
20250033744 · 2025-01-30 ·

Some fishing boats include a livewell system. This document describes livewell systems that have multiple modes of operation. The modes of operation include, at least, a first mode with a lower water level and a second mode with a higher water level. While the livewell is operating in the second mode, the tank is nearly full of water. Accordingly, with a nearly full tank, the water in the livewell will resist sloshing around while the boat is navigating rough seas or travelling at high speeds or for long distances. Moreover, the health of the fish in the livewell will be protected because of the water's lessened tendency to slosh around in the livewell.

Adjustable drain

A drain system having a body adjustably coupled to a drain. The body can be rotated along its threads and engage a seal in the drain to substantially prevent water from flowing out of the drain. When rotated the opposite direction, the body can be spaced from the seal and allow water to flow out of the drain. The drain can also include holes that allow water to flow into the drain when the body is rotated so as to be spaced from the seal.

Pressurized Livewell System and Method

A pressurized livewell system is designed to autonomously maintain a slightly elevated water pressure within the livewell tank, and to keep the tank substantially full of water at all times to prevent injury or death of live bait due to sloshing of water within the tank when the boat is in rough water. The system includes a tank with a lid, a water pressure sensor connected to an electronic controller programmed with an algorithm, which controls voltage to a pump, and a water outflow system including an in-line low pressure check valve. The pressure sensor continuously sends water pressure data to the electronic controller, which uses the algorithm calculations to continuously adjusts pump voltage, and thus water output rate, to maintain a constant pressure, preferably between 0.08 psi and 0.1 psi. The system may be operated in manual mode or automatic mode.
