MULTI-PIECE ASSEMBLY FOR A TUBULAR COMPOSITE BODY

Embodiments are directed to systems and methods for two or more cured composite assemblies that are bonded together to form a tubular composite structure, wherein each of the cured composite assemblies do not have a tubular shape. The tubular composite structure may form a spar for an aerodynamic component, for example. The two or more cured composite assemblies may comprise carbon or fiberglass composite materials or a combination of materials. Each of the cured composite assemblies may further comprise axial edges that are configured to be bonded to another of the cured composite assemblies, wherein the axial edges have a sloped shape. An adhesive agent may be applied on the axial edges for bonding two cured composite assemblies. Alternatively, or additionally, one or more fasteners may be used to attach the axial edges of at least two cured composite assemblies.

PROPELLER BLADE SHEATH

A propeller blade assembly includes an airfoil having a base, a tip and a leading edge and a root extending from the base of the airfoil for attaching the airfoil to a hub. The assembly further comprises an electrically conductive sheath for electrically grounding the airfoil. The electrically conductive sheath is attached to the leading edge of the airfoil and extends from the base to the tip of the airfoil. The assembly further comprises an electrically conductive element for electrically connecting the electrically conductive sheath to the root or hub. Also disclosed is an electrically conductive sheath for grounding an airfoil and a method for assembling a propeller blade assembly.

Structurally Biased Proprotor Blade Assembly

A tiltrotor aircraft includes a fuselage, a wing member extending from the fuselage, an engine disposed relative to the wing member and a proprotor mechanically coupled to the engine. The proprotor includes a plurality of proprotor blade assemblies each including a spar and a sheath extending spanwise along the spar forming the leading edge of the proprotor blade assembly. The spar has a root section, a main section and a tip section. The spar has a generally oval cross section at radial stations along the main section and a first edge having a structural bias relative to a generally oppositely disposed second edge at the radial stations along the main section.

The proprotor blade assemblies each including a spar and a sheath extending spanwise along a leading edge of the spar. The spar has a root section, a main section and a tip section. The spar has a generally oval cross section at radial stations along the main section of the spar with the root section of the spar forming an integral tang assembly operable for coupling the spar to the rotor hub assembly.
