METHOD OF FORMING BOTTOM-GUSSETED PACKAGE WITH TAPE ELEMENTS
20180105296 · 2018-04-19 ·

A bottom-gusseted package comprises a package body, and a bottom gusset positioned transversely of a longitudinal axis of the package body. Formation of the bottom-gusseted package is effected by positioning individual sleeves transversely of the longitudinal axis of a flexible web which forms the package body. Tape elements are applied in overlapping relationship to opposite ends of each individual sleeve. During package formation, the flexible web is cut to form individual packages, and each individual sleeve can be cut to form a bottom gusset in one package, and a top sleeve portion in an adjacent package. A top sleeve portion of the package body can be configured to include a reclosable fastener. The tape elements facilitate formation such that the packages can be formed and filled on an associated vertical form, fill and seal apparatus have conventionally configured heat-sealing jaws.

The barrier film or sheet of the membrane is provided with at least one slit.

Coated fabric, a bag produced therefrom, a packaging machine for bags and a method for filling the bags

A coated fabric (11), comprising a fabric (12) from polymer tapes (12a, 12b), wherein the fabric (12) is coated with a sealing layer (13), wherein at least a portion of the polymer tapes (12a, 12b) have a breaking tenacity of less than 45 cN/tex, preferably 15 to 40 cN/tex and an elongation at break of more than 30%, preferably of 40 to 90%, and/or wherein the sealing layer (13) is formed from a composition A comprising at least one ethylene/-olefin interpolymer, and wherein the composition has a density from 0.905 to 0.930 g/cc, preferably from 0.910 to 0.930 g/cc (1 cc=1 cm.sup.3), and a melt index (12) from 3 to 20 g/10 min and a bag comprising said fabric; a packaging machine (100) for filling gusseted (220) bags (10, 200) wherein the bag walls (202) of the bags (10, 200) consist of a woven fabric (11) of polymer tapes (12a, 12b) at least in part and wherein each of the ends (203, 204) of the bag wall (202) is provided with a filling mouth (211) for filling, wherein a closing device (125) is provided which is structured such that as the filling mouth (211) is closed a welding temperature of at least 50 Kelvin higher in the region of the gussets (220) than in a center region (223) of the bag wall (202) can be generated.

Forming device, machine, packaging laminate web, forming method and process in producing packages

A forming device and method for use in a packaging machine of the type where packages are produced from a tube. The forming device comprises two opposing sealing elements between which the tube is arranged to be flat-laid and squeezed to heat the thermoplastic and obtain a first transverse seal of the tube. It further comprises two volume control elements. The forming device is characterized in that it is arranged to displace the first transverse seal off-center in relation a longitudinal axis of the first portion of the tube in a displacement direction essentially perpendicular to the first transverse seal to enable later shaping of a corresponding final package with a wall arranged with a predetermined angle of inclination in relation to the displacement direction. The invention also relates to a machine, a process and a packaging laminate.

HOLD-OPEN DEVICE AND PACKAGE HAVING SAME
20170137161 · 2017-05-18 ·

A device for selectively retaining a package opening in a gaping configuration and a package including the device applied to a package body. The device includes a circumferential strip with side seams formed as vertical or longitudinal hinges. One or more tabs extend in a first axial direction from an upper edge of the circumferential strip at the side seams. Each tab is coupled to the circumferential strip with a horizontal or transverse hinge. The tabs are pivotable about the horizontal or transverse hinges in opposite directions away from the opening axis to respective folded-out positions, which inhibits the device from folding at the side seams and retains a gaping open configuration of the device and package. The vertical hinges include thru cuts or line of perforations that go through the entire material thickness of the circumferential strip and the one or more tabs and extend for a majority of the full axial length of the device. The horizontal hinges may be in the form of a living hinge or alternatively thru cuts or a line of perforations.

Thread material cutting device

A thread material cutting device is provided which is used in an extraction bag sheet manufacturing apparatus. The thread material cutting device has tension application means such as a pressing plate configured to engage with the thread material placed between adjacent tags so as to apply tension to the thread material. While the welding means is press-heating the thread material onto the tags, the tension application means applies tension to the thread material so as to cut the thread material.

Reclosable flexible packages for food products

A reclosable flexible package for storing a food product and a method of manufacture thereof are provided. The package includes a flexible film side wall, a closed first end, a closed second end portion that can be separated from the side wall to provide an access opening, and a collar. The collar can be formed in the side wall or attached to the side wall. The collar is more rigid than adjacent portions of the side wall and is rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the package to twist portions of the side wall and block access to the opening after removal of the second end portion.

MULTI-COMPARTMENT BAG

A method is disclosed for forming a two-compartment bag. The method comprises draping a sheet of bag forming material around a primary fill pipe and one or more secondary fill pipes, forming multiple compartments by sealing the sheet material around the respective fill pipes, filling the various compartments with material, and sealing the bag.

The method comprises forming transverse seals so that a transverse seal area of a secondary compartment at least partially overlaps with a transverse seal area of the first compartment, so that the secondary compartment is fixedly folded against the first compartment.

The method permits the volume of the secondary compartments to be varied independent from the volume of the primary compartment. Each compartment may be opened without opening the other compartments.

In a preferred embodiment the bag is made of a microwave-compatible material, and at least one of the compartments contains a food material intended for reheating or preparation in a microwave oven.
