A device for winding up a film at a packaging machine, the device including a reception mandrel drivable for rotation about a rotation axis and a reception sleeve for the film for being pushed onto the reception mandrel. The reception sleeve may be formed by segments arranged next to each other along a circumference or perimeter of the reception sleeve, wherein neighboring or adjacent segments may be pivotably connected to each other. The reception mandrel may be formed as rigid body having engagement structures that are configured to cooperate with shape features of an inner circumference or perimeter of the reception sleeve, when the reception sleeve has been pushed onto the reception mandrel, so that a rotation of the reception mandrel about the rotation axis causes the reception sleeve to rotate with the reception mandrel.

A paper roll support assembly is provided with a collapsible spindle with distal ends to be received in a pair of bracket receptacles. The collapsible spindle is provided with an outer spindle member, an open end spaced apart from the distal end, and a cavity formed therein with a first diameter. An inner spindle member is provided with a proximal end spaced apart from the distal end with an outer diameter sized to be received within the cavity for translation and rotation relative to the outer spindle. A first retainer is oriented in the cavity in cooperation with a second retainer oriented on the inner spindle member such that extension is prevented in a first rotational orientation and extension is permitted in a second rotational orientation.

The outer flanges are slightly taller than the inner flanges such that the spool may be positioned on a flat surface (e.g., truck bed or ground) and unwound without any equipment.

The housing defines an interior region and includes a cable storage portion and a mounting surface defining a receptacle. The axle is configured to removably attach to the receptacle. The spool is configured to be disposed on the axle, and has a first flange proximal to the mounting surface and a removable second flange distal to the mounting surface when the spool is disposed on the axle. The spool has a drum portion configured to support a coiled fiber optic cable and dispense the fiber optic cable as the spool rotates on the axle. Undispensed cable can be removed from the spool with the second flange removed. The cable storage portion of the housing is configured to receive the undispensed coil.
