Elevator system suspension member termination

A suspension member for suspending and/or driving an elevator car of an elevator system includes a plurality of tension members extending along a length of the suspension member including a plurality of fibers extending along the length of the suspension member bonded into a polymer matrix. A jacket substantially retains the plurality of tension members. The suspension member is configured to be deformed at a suspension member end to allow for installation of the suspension member end into a termination assembly of the elevator system. A method of installing a suspension member of an elevator system into a termination assembly includes deforming a suspension member end and reforming it to a selected shape, inserting the suspension member end into the termination assembly and curing and/or hardening it, and applying a load thereto or to the socket or the wedge to secure the suspension member end in the termination assembly.

The invention relates to rope gripping member for a rope gripping device, the rope gripping member comprising an elongated rope gripping face for being pressed against an elongated side face of an end section of a rope, the elongated rope gripping face having a longitudinal direction and a front edge and a rear edge; wherein tensile stiffness of the rope gripping member in longitudinal direction of the gripping face increases non-linearly with accelerating rate from the front edge towards the rear edge of the gripping face. The invention also relates to a rope gripping device, a rope terminal arrangement and a hoisting apparatus implementing the rope gripping member.

System and method for monitoring an elevator belt

An elevator end termination for an elevator belt includes a wedge housing, a segmented wedge disposed axially within the wedge housing. The segmented wedge includes at least two wedge members spaced apart from one another to define a space therebetween. At least one pressure sensor is disposed in the space defined between the at least two wedge members. The at least one pressure sensor registers compressive pressure exerted between the at least two wedge members. The at least two wedge members may include a pair of adjacent longitudinally-extending wedge members, and a wedge crown adjacent a first end of each of the longitudinally-extending wedge members and separated therefrom by a transversely-extending space. The space is a longitudinal slot between the adjacent wedge members.

Elevator system suspension member termination

An elevator system includes a hoistway and an elevator car suspended in the hoistway via one or more suspension members. A counterweight is suspended in the hoistway via the one or more suspension members to balance operation of the elevator car. A machine is positioned at the hoistway to drive the one or more suspension members along the hoistway, driving motion of the elevator car and/or counterweight along the hoistway. A suspension member termination is supported at the machine, to secure an end of the one or more suspension members. A drive system for an elevator includes one or more elevator suspension members and a machine interactive with the one or more elevator suspension members to drive motion of an elevator car. A suspension member termination is supported at the machine to secure an end of the one or more suspension members at the machine.

Elevator system suspension member termination with improved pressure distribution

A termination device for a suspension member of an elevator system includes a housing, and a wedge assembly positioned in the housing. The wedge assembly is interactive with the suspension member to apply a clamping force to the suspension member in response to an axial load acting on the suspension member. The wedge assembly includes a compressible cushion configured to increase uniformity of the clamping force applied to the suspension member by the wedge assembly. An elevator system includes a hoistway, an elevator car located in the hoistway, a suspension member operably connected to the elevator car to suspend and/or drive the elevator car along the hoistway, and a termination device located in the hoistway and operably connected to a suspension member end of the suspension member.

Counterweight for elevator system

A counterweight is provided including a counterweight frame including a crosshead. A counterweight hitch is operably coupled to the counterweight frame. The counterweight hitch includes a vertically stacked first sheave channel and a second sheave channel. Each of the first sheave channel and second sheave channel includes an interior cavity within which at least one individual sheave assembly is mounted. The plurality of individual sheave assemblies is substantially identical and arranged at an angle relative to a central plane of the counterweight frame.
