A pulley system includes a cord and a pair of stages coupled at a pivot point, the stages being independently rotatable about a stage axis. A first pulley is attached to the stages at the pivot point. Two additional pulleys are attached to one of the stages. Braking elements are attached to one of the stages and engage the cord when an uneven tension is applied.

Belay braking system

A user-controllable braking system, including a descent tether connectable to a support and configurable for descending a user; a rigid body configured to be connectable between the descent tether and a user for enabling control of the descent by the user; a pulley rotatably positioned on the rigid body, the descent tether positionable around the pulley; a brake member yieldably positioned on the rigid body adjacent the pulley; a bias member operatively associated with the brake member to bias the brake member away from the pulley; and a lever pivotally connected to the rigid body and operable to bear against the brake member to controllably overcome the bias member and controllably bear the brake member against a portion of the descent tether. Operation of the lever by the user enables the user to controllably bear the brake member against the portion of the descent tether positioned around the pulley to provide a braking force.

A load securing pulley supports the weight of a hoisted load by restraining a load-support cord in order to maintain tension within the load-support cord between the hoisted load and the load securing pulley. The load securing pulley includes a wheel-supporting housing, a wheel-receiving opening, a hook retention eye, a rope lock, and a pulley wheel. The hook retention eye is connected to the wheel-supporting housing such that the present invention is able to be suspended from a hook to a raised horizontal support. The wheel-receiving opening laterally traverses into the wheel-supporting housing in order to allow the pulley wheel to be positioned and rotate within the wheel-supporting housing. The rope lock allows for the load-support cord to be secured to the present invention through tension due to the weight of the hoisted load.
