Drive machine for an elevator and an elevator

A drive machine for an elevator includes a motor module including at least a motor, a drive shaft, and a first transmission wheel, which are provided with a common rotational axis and connected coaxially to each other. The drive machine further includes a traction module including at least a traction wheel engageable with elevator hoisting ropes, and a second transmission wheel, which are provided with a common rotational axis and connected coaxially to each other. The motor module and the traction module are positioned side by side with their rotational axes parallel, such that the traction wheel and the drive shaft are side by side, and the first and second transmission wheels are side by side. The drive machine further includes an endless drive member passing around the first and second transmission wheels. An elevator comprising said drive machine is also disclosed.

Electromagnetic-released, multi-disc enclosed safety brake

An electromagnetic-released, multi-disc, enclosed safety brake for primary use in offshore marine winch applications includes a stationary coil housing that encompasses springs that apply pressure to an armature, a pair of separator plates, three friction plates and a stationary endplate. The multi-disc brake is released by means of a DC voltage applied to the brake coil. The excited coil generates an electromagnetic force that attracts the armature across an air-gap thus reducing the spring force applied to the disc pack. The brake is applied when the DC voltage is removed from the brake coil. Various structures and methodologies for reducing vibrations in the brake are also provided.

Brake release sensors for an elevator can be replaced by an arrangement wherein the brake release is determined from the force caused by the brake. This is achieved by providing measuring device for measuring the weight of an elevator car between the brake and the motor body so that the weight of the elevator car is measured only when the brake is on.

An illustrative example embodiment of an elevator brake device includes a brake member configured to move into a braking position to resist movement of an elevator car associated with the brake device. A plurality of actuators are associated with the brake member and selectively controllable to apply a force to cause the brake member to move into the braking position. A brake controller determines a number of the actuators to activate based on a determined load of the elevator car associated with the brake device.

Drawworks gearbox with redundant braking on input side

A drawworks gearbox includes additional braking on the input side of the gearbox to provide a redundant emergency brake and, optionally, a separate parking brake with the drum-side brakes being the emergency brake. An air-cooled brake disc is attached to a high speed coupling connected to the gearbox input pinion. A hydraulic-apply, spring-release brake is mounted to the gearbox housing at each pinion location and arranged to act on its respective disc.
